Problem With Pinpoint Going Silent

unearth

Member
Has anyone re-booted their CTX? Why did you do it and did it help? The reason I ask is because my machine doesn't seem to want to pinpoint anything deeper than 4 or 5 inches anymore. I get a signal push the pinpoint button, and silence. I've tried the different pinpoint options, didn't help. I've tried high trash, low trash, ferrous and ground settings, and silence. If the target is only 2 or 3 inches down, then, not a problem. So, I was wondering if I reset the CTX, maybe that might fix the problem. Or, is there something else I can try to fix the problem? Also, this happens whether I'm using disc. or an open screen. I've check under my coil cover, nothing there but dust. Any help/info on this problem is greatly appreciated.

unearth,
If you're in pinpoint sizing mode, the detector does a 'ground grab'/'signal grab' and fixed tune when you engage it.
If you're too near metal when you do that, it will de-sensitize the detector to the point where you will probably lose most deep targets.

In clean ground, you might try engaging the pinpoint at knee height....then lower the coil and sweep.
If you're in mineralized ground, try engaging the pinpoint an inch or so above a CLEAN (no metal signals) section of ground...well off to the side of your target, instead.
Then sweep.

For sure, start with what trojdor said. I always start off to the side.
