Problem with my Pro Pointer Tonight

Went out for a bit tonight and had a problem with my pro pointer. When I put it in the hole it would start beeping and wouldn't quit, even if I held it in the air it continued to go off. I took the battery out several time to try and reset it but it still continued to beep. It was impossible to find my targets as the thing wouldn't stop going off. I knew it couldn't be the battery as it is only a week old. I took it home and cleaned it up, added a little piece of foam rubber behind the battery as I noticed it jiggled a little when I shook it, and now it seems to work fine. There was quite of bit dirt caked on it and wonder if there could have been a tiny piece of metal in that dirt.? Or I read on line that my Etrac may have been on a frequency that caused it to talk to the pro pointer.
Just wondering if anyone has ever had this issue? What are your thoughts?

I tried a little experiment with mine. It will pick up staple from a desk stapler, but it won't pick it up when I break that staple in half. The battery in mine doesn't rattle if I shake it. I did notice there is a little rubber disc glued to the center of the battery cap. If you lost that, that could cause it to rattle, or not having the cap completely tight could cause the rattle too. I would think as much as you have hunted with both units, that you would of noticed the problem long before this, if it was the frequency. And unless the dirt was moist, I wouldn't think that you would of picked up any tiny piece of metal, that would stick to the tip. But if the dirt was damp, then I suppose that could of happened.

Looks like the process of elimination in order. If it is internal, Garretts is pretty good about getting them fixed or replaced.

It's probably still on vacation mode.

I think Nancy is right on!! I'm off today and planning on heading out for a bit before the rain hits... I will let you all know if the lose battery was the problem.

I usually put a quarter or two on top of the battery before i screw the cap on to keep everything from jiggling around inside.

When my battery went bad this spring, it sounded off like an ambulance siren. Not as if a coin were touching the tip of it. It was a totally different sound.
