Problem with my ace 350

I pulled out my 350 out this morning and i turned it on. The machine stared beeping like i had a whole lot of metal under it. I lifted it up in the air and it was still beeping. It was showing all kinds of targets on the scale from iron to coins. I turned it on and off about five times before it worked normal. I checked the cord to make sure it was screwed in and not loss. Not sure what is going on with it. Ive had it about a month. Should i call garrett or is it somthing im doing that is casing it. I also lowered the senitivity and was still all over the place.

I would check all connections, and reset your detector by hold down power button until it double beeps, usually 3 or 5 sec. And check your batteries, hope it helps

I had a bad coil on another brand detector do the same thing. If the reset doesn't clear it, call.

Before you turn your 350 on check that there are no electrical fields around like low hanging power lines, high tension power lines close by or anything that can put out a large electrical field like transformers or tram/train lines. The second time I used my 350 in the field, it went nuts, then I was under a low hanging power line that crossed the park, that line really played with my ace, all the tones rang and the display jumped from one end to the other. It happened a second time when I was near a rail line and a big diesel electric cattle train passed, I tried pointing the 350 away from the train, then I walked away, then ran and finally I turned the 350 off, I was so happy when after the train passed and the 350 started up and behaved normally.

Also check that you don't have a magnet attached to your coil or that you have anything stuck between the coil and the cover like mineral sands.

If you have a second coil attach that and see what happens.

Just a thought what about a radar transmitter close by?

If your batteries are weak or one is worn out, the ACE will behave that way. Try a fresh set of batteries.

First, try a complete new batteries like John said. If that doesn't solve issue, disconnect the coil and power-up the unit. If it behaves badly with coil detached, good chance its the electronics. If its behaving badly with coil attached, then the probability increases that the coil assembly may be at fault.

Also, if you use rechargeable batteries, replace and recharge them once you're down by two notches. Rechargeable batteries only have a voltage of 1.2 volts, instead of the disposable 1.5 volt batteries. They might show they're still strong, but when you hit targets, the detector will react strangely, starting from original metal readings and then dipping to iron readings, all in the blink of an eye.

This is exactly what happened with the first seahunter II i recieved. damn thing wouldn't stop chiming. It was the coil for me but the above advice is sound before going to Garrett.

I think I figured it out. I think I was over under ground power lines. I think that is what is making it act so crazy. I went away from the front of my house and it was normal.
