problem with headphones?

Bling

New member
i put Jolly Roger headphones on my excal today ...spliced them 3" down from ear piece and put water proof connection on both stock headphones and the jolly rogers.problem is there is very little volume coming from the jolly roger's..no matter how i wire them ? they do work but at about 1/2 the normal volume? excal has 2 wires and JR's have 3? the volume knob does work but only puts out about 1/2 normal volume? the mono switch works .any ideas?

Sounds like they are not wired right but can't tell you for sure. Have you checked there impedance
to see if they are in the correct range for the Excal?

Bling, the Jolly Rogers I use on my Sovereign don't have a lot of volume.I usually set the headphone volume knob close to max when used.At a max volume set the Jolly Roger's are not uncomfortable far as the noise level.I think some people may prefer louder headphones.

no i didnt want to take them apart..they work great on my Sovereign's thats why i wanted them for my Excal..they work but about 1/2 as loud as on the Sovereign and about 1/2 as loud as the stock Excal headphones? i always run the vol on the headphones wide open and turn it down on the detector..i do know the Jolly Roger's have a switch to go from mono to stereo ..works fine on my Sovereign? there are 3 wires on the Jolly Roger and only 2 on the Excal.

Bling if you use them on your Sovereign then you know how strong the volume should be, very comfortable headphones, good luck.

I just this minute got a set of Black Widows and I'm sending them back ....Somebody is screwing up wiring these things or they got a bunch of bad pots or SOMETHING !!.....I can hardly hear out of them and the right ear doesn't go up all the way in volume and then the audio cuts out altogether .....???????......I've had enough with these headphone companies ....I need to find some phones that WORK locally ..... This is my 2nd set of phones !!.......Jim

in my case its not the headphones are bad as they work great on my Sovereign..they just dont work on an Excal.

The Black Widows were not only defective with the right ear volume control, but they were were also lower in volume than ANY headphones that I have tried on the E Trac, both left AND Right ear .....I could hardly hear them !!....Jim

I never got any good volume out of two or three sets of the jolly rogers. very comfortable but not enough volume.

Ive got two pairs of black widows and never had the problem your explaining Jim. Mine are nice and loud and both volume controls work great. excellent audio on them also.

I figured if you had real bad hearing they might not work for you, I know I tried 5 differnt sets in case I had got a bad set, but they were all the same for me. For most they work out OK, but their hearing may not be as bad as ours.
My offer still stand on the extra set I have for my E-Trac for you to try.

At General Motors in 1980 I was cut out of material and assigned back on the medium duty truck assembly line.My new job was drifting the engines in place, tightening the engine mounts, connecting and tightening the dry shaft and the muffler mounts. This job cycle took one minute and 32 seconds, busy and boring at the same time. What made this job even worst you worked in a pit all day.To make life better I got a Walkman and would listen to my favorite FM station as I worked. The Walkman was used for a couple of months and it worked great the only draw back co workers you use to have conversations with no longer talked to you because you couldn't hear them. One day I noticed a guy from the safety department with a clip board and some kind of electronic meter checking different area's and taking notes. As I was working he checked my area and asked me to take the headphones off.He was polite and introduced himself and explained he was checking the plant for excess noise level. The safety guy asked me to leave the volume at the level I used on the Walkman so he could check the headphones. He put what looked like an oversize mic up to the headphones and I could see the decimal meter climb.Next was a lecher about how his noise meter gave a reading high enough on those headphones to damage your hearing.Further he stated you don't realize but you end up turning the volume a little louder each time you use the Walkman and now you are at the point which it could damage your hearing.Anyway the Walkman was banned and even though I was pissed he was right. My opinion of the Jolly Roger's they are the safest headphones on the market, keep noise out, nice tone, and won't damage your hearing from a volume blast.

Interesting.....I wonder how many of US can no longer hear tones for reason like yours and mine ? :yikes:

love them! iv bought others that cost more but didnt like them...only problem is they WONT work on my Excal ll.

i use on se pro at times...........compradre........G2.........great phones

lighter and cooler than the widows............widows are nice, but these babies are moving up the list fast............:)

The problem I had wtih the Black Widoes were that they were defective ....The volume pot on the Right side was defective ...The volume on the LEFT ear was fine , but the right was LOW because they would not turn all the way up ....The knob would turn, but the the volume only went to a certain point and then crapped out on the right ear ...If I could have gotten full volume on BOTH ears, I'm sure they would have been loud enough .....At the advise of Crazyman , I just picked up a set of Sony MDRV 150's ....They were $20 , and no volume controls , and no limitter, but they are surely loud enough and they sound GREAT on both the E Trac and the Sovereign ....Jim
