Anyone have problems with the headphone adapter for the ATP? I've tried mine with my Greyghosts and it doesn't work. Tried it with my Auvio 33-283 wireless, very poor response. Tried my headphones off my Etrac and they work great. Anyone else have issues with a particular headphone set up?
My problem came up when a bulldog ran my AT Pro and pulled the headphone wire...
Had to re-solder the connections and put in a couple of drops of solder into the black Garrett connector.
Typical maintenance, I guess...
The coil cover has taken a pretty good beating so far in it's life.
The plastic chips easily.
Bulldogs are very curious animals. Other dogs come by and look in the holes and help you dig. Bulldogs like running into things, clumsely...
I've had two of them that would cut in and out. The first began shortly after I got the A T and Garrett replaced it. The one I am using now started doing it a while ago and when I straighten the wire near the head phone plug it stops and works fine for a while. A while, like hours to many days in a row. I do have a spare in case it completely goes out. HH jim tn
My AT Pro head phones stopped working. I finally cut the wire about 9" from the plug and Checked the wiring for continuity with an ohm meter and nothing. I am now using my ATX headphones. I worked for 35 years in electronics, so I thought that I could repair them. It is in the molded plug area and it cannot be repaired. Garrett most likely would have replaced them, but I voided the warranty by cutting the cable.
I am specifically talking about the headphone adapter that allows you to use regular 1/4" plugged headphones. The adapter works well with my Koss UR30,not at all with my Greyghosts and extremely poor sound from my Auvio 33-283. I don't understand it unless the other phones are operating on different frequencies.
Check the position of the compatibility switch if your gray ghost headphones has it. I have a set of the original gray ghost headphones. They have a selector switch for metal detector compatibility. They work fine with my detector as long as the compatibility switch is in the right position. If it is in the wrong position I get no sound. I use the switch to cut the sound to the headphones when someone wants to talk to me. I can hear them without taking the headphones off.
Thanks for the info. liondogs. My GG have the white and black buttons on one of the earmuffs instead of a toggle switch, I haven't figured out just how to use them yet.
Sounds like you have the Ultimate Gray Ghost headphones model. One of the push buttons on the headphones is for metal detector compatibility and the other push button is for turning on and off the limiter circuit.
Thanks for the info. I actually went back and read the instructions. It states that some non-Garrett headphones will not have enough impedance to cut out the external speaker on the ATP. It says the headphones have to have an impedance of 10,000 ohms to work or another piece of electronic item has to be used. Oh well my Koss UR 30s work.
