Problem with coil??

Hey guys I have noticed that the last few times I have taken my Explorer Se with pro coil out hunting that if i accidentally bounce my coil off of a small tree stubble or vine while swinging the coil I get a tinkle sound that sounds a lot like when you get a good silver hit. It is frustrating and I was wondering if anybody else has this problem or maybe my coil has a short? I have checked the connections and all is good. Also the cable has no nicks or cuts that I could find. Just wondering if this is normal? Thanks for any advise you can offer!

Lucky yours didnt come with a slim line..... they hate being hitting anything. You get a lot of falsing. Sounds like falsing from to much sensitivity to me. Try putting it in Auto sensitivity an bump the bush again .... see what happens.

Thanks Dew..Will try that tomorrow an see if it helps any. I have been running pretty high trying to get some more depth so that is probably it. :shrug:
 
My coil will false high tone when I'm aggressively digging a plug with my shovel in one hand and my machine in the other. The shaking of the machine causes it to high-tone false. I am borrowing a friend's E-Trac right now, and that machine does it to me, too...so it seems semi-normal to me.

Yea I can get mine to do it by shaking it too. I think I remember my X-Terra 70 doing the same thing..It only seems to be a problem when I am working an area that has little tree stubbles poking up that just happen to catch the coil..Glad to know it's not broke. Thanks guys and Happy New Year!!!
 
Hey Steve .... you are going to fry your brain trying to figure out the Explorer and the ETrac at the same time :laugh: .... good luck with that !
 
Depending on your beach as to how much sensitivity you can run. I found on one beach here i can run full out..... but whats really happening is you are over powering the machine and not gaining much if anything in depth. I tested mine on a deep dime where i could crank it up to max.... after 28 sensitivity there was a slight reduction not increase in depth on the dime. Also the more sensitivity you use the larger picture of the dirt its taking in to process..... which means deeper targets can create masking. A dime is your best friend when testing.

Yeah, McDave. I've been frying my brain; sometimes switching between the two on the same hunt! :)

What I have found is, both love to find silver, and while the E-Trac is more stable, I like the tones on my Explorer a little better. Performance-wise, both get similar depth, but you can probably cover ground faster with the E-Trac -- which is good on a site you are trying for the first time and looking for the "hot spots," but otherwise is not much of a benefit to me. I would be happy with either one, but I am definitely (as expected) more comfortable with the nuances of the Explorer, having used it for much longer.

Bottom line is, if someone wanted to give me an E-Trac for a good deal, and I had the cash, I wouldn't turn it down, but I also have no desire to get rid of my Explorer. Both are excellent machines!
