Problem with 5" Excelerator coil?

I have a 5" Excelerator coil for my MXT that seems to work OK (in that it detects in ground targets) but about every 10 minutes or so it begins falsing like crazy even if I lift it off the ground into the air. I have had this repeat on several occasions at different locations, all in semi urban areas. Are these coils overly sensitive to electrical interference? Do I need to get further away from town to use it? I am never directly underneath power lines when this happens. Reducing the gain helps some but it doesn't stablize until I get it down to 4 or 5 and I would like to run the gain higher with a small coil. It is not my MXT since my stock 950 coil works fine in the same areas. Should I send it back to kellyco for replacement? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. HH'N Mike
