Problem with 1280-X Aquanaut.

My detector is leaking in battery compartment; it seems that I do everything is right, I use a lubricant on the rubber gasket and tighten the screws, but still water gets there. I live in Poland, so shipment for a service is not so easy. Did anybody have had this problem? What is your advice?

Have you considered replacing the gasket? There is a strong possibility that the gasket may have a small nick in it or it may have a slight crimp preventing it from seating properly?

..........Ive been told NEVER to use a lubricant on the gasket,it can break it down.Ive had my 1280x for 7-8 years now, only in fresh water-NO LEAKS of ANY kind.................

I agree with boomers dad. I have had my 1280 for 18 years and was told by Fisher when I bought it to never use anything on the gasket. I bought two extra gaskets at the time and still have one left The only reason I changed the gasket after ten years was due to age (still didn't leak) , and never have had a leak of any kind. Great detector and built like a tank.
