hello all,for the last few months while out m.d.ing w/ mxt300 i haven't been hitting much and thought it was the areas i was in but when walking back to car i ran my machine over a exposed piece of iron and it didn't do anything.i was surprised and checked the batteries,it said 10 and had been 11 when i started so i figured i needed new bat.tried that and found it barley will acknowledge any thing.i usual test it against the side of the car when i start out and if i see a can or some along the way also .i tried it in different modes c&j,etc and the only way it will give a reading now is if i turn the disc down to zero.tried it on my wife's wedding ring with the ground locked and unless she was touching coil wouldn't read.it still reads hot rocks but that's about it.checked connection to box .my 6x10 has never impressed me with depth ,new out of the box it has never gone down more than 4-5 inches but i love it for picking thrue trashy ares and around brush .i air tested it today with some older and newer coins and could barley get it to read at more than 1 inch.my question is has any one else had this happen, any help is appreciated

[size=large]don't know how long you been doing this but some suggestions. pull the battery pack while machine is on. clean battery contacts inside and on battery pack contacts. use q-tip and alcohol. know anyone with a mxt that will let you try their coil. sounds like that's not the problem but would rule coils out for sure. only tips i know to do.

It sounds like you have a bad coil, I run the 6x10 on my MXT & it will hit a quarter at 8 -10" with a solid hit every time. If your small coil is working OK I would think that it has to be the coil. You might dis connect it & check the prongs in the plug to make sure none of them are bent other than that I hope it is a new coil & you can send it off for replacement.

If your other coils work OK and the 6X10 does not, it is time for a call to White's service.

update- i finally got out today with both coils but before i started i went and got a fresh pack of energizers(i had put in rayovacs from two new packages) and the new energizer fixed the problem. switched back and forth between both coils for 5 hours and i was back in love with my mxt.
