the shaft kept coming lose,i installed it wrong it has a long side and a short side long side on the bottom where the cleat is. i have a felling there are alot of miss installed shafts out there.
 
Do you mean where it meets the housing? Mine has only let loose one time shortly after I bought it. It was not inserted in all the way.
 
seems like i read on this forum about loose shafts. i have a bad habit of not reading directions
but it solved my problem, shaft is tight
 
Early explorers they had to put a dimple in the end to prevent this as end was square, but newer versions had a remake which was not and putting the lower long end in the bottom solved the problem. We all learn from our mistakes including Minelab which made the revision from earlier models...
 
I'm quite tall and use multiple coils with my Explorer on the largest extended shaft. Last weeks of 2011 the shaft wiggled and didn't hold on the big SEF. With high sensitivity settings I got a lot of falsing as well. Rather annoying. I replaced the orange brake pads in the locks which is easy with a flat screwdriver.The aluminium pads were worn out.
