problem creating pattern

Hi all, I am trying to put in a coin pattern (like andy's) but, for the life of me can not get it to work. I'm reading his book and also the manual but I guess I do not understand. If anybody could school me I would greatly appriceate it. I guess i do not know how to change the screen as to accept or reject big areas. Thanks all.

Lets see if I can help a little without making a shambles out of things.
Go to your "edit" screen
Select the size (small, medium, large, whole screen) from the left side of the screen of the area you want to change
Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to the area you want to change
At the area you want to change, select either the "accept" (check mark) or the "reject" ( X ) to change the area you either want to accept/reject.
Keep moving the cursor around the screen, editing those areas you want to change.
When your done "save" the pattern to one of your available slots or "overwrite" a slot that already has a pattern in it.

Did this help ????

I think you have to hit the detect button before you can save it, otherwise it won't be ready to be saved. So after the last adjustment hit the detect button and then go into the menu and go into save, and pick a slot to put it in. I think you have to scroll down to a slot and then hit a left or right button, to see the pattern appear as saved. At least that's what I do. Try a very simple but different pattern that you will recognise and try and save it. Otherwise you will create a complex pattern and then lose it and waste a lot of time. Practice on a simple program first.

Would someone please explain--step by step how to SAVE a discrimination pattern to the Etrac?

1) I'm able to manipulate the discrimination screen just fine to create a custom pattern--
2) I hit the Detect button--
3) It prompts me to save -- I hit save--
4) Then what??

When I go to Menu I can't find anything saved. Been through both books--this is stupid hard to do.

ALSO, what is the difference between "A User Mode" in the first menu screen and a "Discrimination Pattern" in the second Menu screen?

Robert

Robert, after you hit the detect button it will ask if you want to save the pattern to smartfind hit yes. Then go to menu and the first one to the left is user modes. go down and hit save and then pick a open slot (1-4) then hit the right arrow key and a little floppy disk icon will appear and that should do it. Anytime you want to use it just go to user modes and go down to the slot where it's saved and hit the detect button and it will ask if you want to load it. I think that's it. I think the difference between a user mode and discrimination pattern is a user mode is basiclly a whole program. What I mean is when you save a pattern in user mode you can also save all the settings along with it. For example it will save how you got your audio and expert settings set etc. Then all you have to do is load your user mode into smartfind(detect button) and all your settings and discrimination pattern are ready to go. A disc. pattern is just that a pattern. I will give you some advice. Take it slow and dont get frustrated. Any high end detector has alot of bells and whistles to learn. The e-trac is top notch but TAKE IT SLOW and just learn it and it will amaze you. I've only had mine since august and just now starting to learn the machine. If you start out with the stock coin program that should do just fine. In fact alot of seasoned vets use that program. Have fun with it and happy hunting.

Thanks for the helpful post. I haven't had my etrac long enough to get fancy but I do want to work on a pattern. This has helped me a lot.

My problem is every time I try to do it I am out in the field and have not taken the time to fool around with it at home and practice... saving it is not very intuitive. I have managed to save a couple of patterns but I am not confident with it.

I have never been able to combine patterns, for the same reason.

Julien

The thing to remember when saving... the "user mode" saves all settings exactly as you have it currently. "disc pattern" will only save the accept/reject pattern. All other options such as trash density, ground setting, etc wont be saved under the "disc pattern" option.

Jason - Thank you for bringing that up. For the longest time I tried making up patterns and just saving them under my discrimination patterns, thinking that saved all my preferences. I soon found out that wasn't the case. All my other adjustments such as Sensitivity, Audio, Expert, and Preferences were not being saved and I kept having to reset them every time I went out (created a lot confusion ,not to mention lost time while hunting.. I now save all my programs in the user Modes programs and I no longer have that problem. It is also easy to edit your User Mode programs in the field if needed.
