Problem coping with iron.

Do any of you experienced Explorer users have any settings, tips or techniques for detecting in fields that have are heavily infested with iron causing a lot of nulling. I use the Explorer XS.

Detecting in iron or any other trash is tough. If you use discrimination you will have nulling. I and many others use no or little (for me I only disc out crown caps) discrimination, ferrous sounds, and listen to all the low pitched iron sounds instead of all the nulls.
Also try different size coils and hit the area from many directions. A combination of trash and a target can sound good from one direction and be masked from another.

Discriminate out the bottom portion of the sceen (below about conductive 27), open up the area of Indian pennies and nickels using the Learn function. Then switch to Ferrous mode.
The rusty iron trash will "growl" and the good stuff will have a noticeable higher pitch. Of course you are going to lose some good targets (gold), but it really relieves the burden of the rusty iron trash.

I started sometime back collecting the junk iron I dig up and now have some very large cans full of the stuff. The purpose was to find out how to tell if a good target is co-located with iron. The considerations were if the iron is under or over the coin, touching the coin, or at different distances from the iron. That can get complex depending on the size of the iron, type of iron, and distance of the iron from a coin.
There are methods that will eliminate a lot of iron. It is a real advantage to center a target and determine the relative size of the target. I use pinpointing as needed to find out how big the target is and how many there are that I am trying to separate. A consistent low strong tone is iron if we sweep the coil from several directions so that can be eliminated which account for a lot of iron. Let
