Probes

I'm looking to buy a probe. I think I like the Automax Precision V2. Are they good? Also, do most people use probes or are they a waste of money?

Next to the metal detector itself, the probe is the best investment. IMHO. I have a vibraprobe 460 and it helps to dig a lot fewer "dry holes". They help you to find stuff on the edge of the hole. they also cut down the amount of time looking thru the dirt to find the target.

I personally like the Whites Bullseye or Vibraprobe 560. Not crazy about the Automax. Tinytec also makes a great probe from what I hear.
Good luck,
Mike

I have the sunray on the 3D,a whites bullseye II,max thing and just order a uniprobe phones.I first use a probe with my MXT,I have used one ever since. The whites and max are ok they will help,my sunray works better, waiting to see how the phones work. The use uniprobe I just got(not here yet)I am going to try and make something like the rattler out of it.My Depro Wader,I almost made that into a rattler style.I will post how the Uniprobe works.

Probes save time and above all prevent scratching of a nice coin..I pinpoint excellently and feel carrying something extra in your pouch or attached to your unit is not my style. Have to agree on one of those deepies or one standing up next to junk etc. where your pinpoint is off they can be a big help. I think its a matter of getting used to them and although not a big fan would surely recommend a better one as there are a lot of cheapies on the market..Do some research and shop around...

great probe... using them for years without any problems......Really gets the job done..check it out for sure.

I have detected for years and years without a probe and can pinpoint very good with my detectors but I started using a probe lately. I definitely have one with me all the time now.
When I get some curious digs and then have a hard time locating the object the probe really makes a difference. It will help a person with a new detector learn whats being detected if the targets are investigated and dug and hard to find or pinpoint.
The choice of probe will be up to the person buying as far as price and probe specs.
I personnaly like a probe that has some range to it other then just a inch or less. You will notice a few brands that are used by others and have good reps as far as reliability goes.
Treasure mate, vibra probe, Tinytech , and others mentioned below are a few to choose from and there are the inline probes that clip on your detector and work off the detector circuitry they usually have more range.

The Uni Probe is a headphone probe all built in one. It uses Pluse Induction and is deep and the headphones are crisp. Like all the others have said don't be old school the probe makes it more fun and is faster and you won't scratch your targets. It is also deep enough to scan the ground for other coins near the one you are looking for.

I use a "Little Wizard II"..less than 20 bucks.
Good think about a probe is that if depth shows 2 inches or less, the probe will probably hit it.

Vibraprobe 560, a lot of people use them, say they're good probes and it's waterproof. Paid $98.00 for. HH, Mike

Its a great probe. I like the fact that there is no off and on button. But, just make sure when you store it after the days hunt that its off and not stored around metal.
HH,
Mike

and you don't want a probe that will hit too deep, or you will have to be huntin around in the hole to much.

Hy Pixanne8, Seriously look into one of the Sunray In-Line Probes, depending on what metal detector you use! If your detector will handle a Sunray In-Line Probe, you won't regret it! HH, NamVetLesTreasureSeeker
