Can anyone give me any info on probes? I ordered a vibra probe and was thinking of getting another as back-up!
i just used one for the fist time last month and sat on it a broke it! One of those max specials! Cheap made...I have been MDing for 20 years and wonder how I go along without one..The old times know what I mean!
Anyway, let me know what you think!
Thanks Dave

Hello,
I bought a White's Bullseye and I think it is darn durable and work's pretty darn well also.
Although it is another thing to carry around.
If I had to do it again I would purchase the one that fit's on the machine itself.
Just my point of view!

I'm field testing the Sunray Probe and it doesn't get much better. It attaches to your detector and runs off the detector's power and it will pick up targets to three inches or more. No chance of losing this one or stepping on it.

Sun ray, Would you think it would get hung up in the jungle or on rocks and would it be touch enough?? Good Cord? I mean when I'm walking thought the jungle, I can grab the cord and hold it against the detector? Any problem with cord breaks? How about being too sensitive on the sides ...do you think it is in front when it is on the side? I guess that is not too big of a thing! Thanks everyone!

Hi Dave.
I bought a Pocket UniProbe a couple of weeks ago(Would have bought a Sunray, But they don't make them for my X-Terra30 yet.Thrilled to bits with it! Expensive? Yup. Had to import it to Australia and add the exchange rate to the equation.Cost Aus$420.Any regrets? None!!! It's an absolute cracker of a probe! The first time out with it I probed a $2 coin at a depth of 5inches:thumbup: That's about as far as I generally dig anyway. That same hunt I ran out of daylight, and despite the lack of a torch or backlight I continued the hunt by notching out all but the most desirable notches and found the coins with the UniProbe! It was easier than I could do in full daylight with my screwdriver.Found $7.50 in the dark.Probes make target locating a lot easier and if you can get something like the Sunray inline probe (which still has a reach of 3inches) then it makes it even easier. The down side is that you spend a few extra dollars and it's another item to carry; the upside is that you save yourself a tonne of time and frustration looking for that elusive target and you spend a lot more time doing what we all love; detecting! The other major benefit, is that because you know exactly where your target is, you won't damage it on recovery.
Good luck with your Vribra probe,
Mick Evans.

I have a sunray on my 1500 and love it. Don't worry about the cord hanging up on anything. Runs off the detector with same discrimination and tone. Basically a one inch coil. HH, Eric

If your post is to me - yes. I'm field testing one for Sun Ray and it works great. It's basically a tiny detector and reacts the same way as your big detector.

The ULTIMATE Probe may not be produced any more....
The OTT Technologies Periscope.

This is a 15" Hardened Probe that uses Conductivity and Ferris Content much like Minelab does in their FBS Explorer II.

You push the probe into the soil and as it approaches the target, the pulse rate increases. When contact is made with the metal.... FLATLINES, much like my V-1 does when a CHP Cruiser running Dual Directional Golden Hawk Radar Guns passes in close proximity.

The Periscope has a Verify Switch A/B.... which then determines whether the metal is Ferrous or Non-Ferrous. It can even tell the difference between aluminum Tabs and Gold Rings by the audio responses.

Bad News: $550.00 and although Ott industries is no longer producing them, still supporting those models out there as far as service. The Periscope also used Four C Cells in a pack you wore on your hip. Two of the Four were used as Back Up. Worked great at Tom C's MT-Big Rec and I cleaned house on Manny's Explorer II thanks to this surgical pin point process.

Putting the Periscope aide, the Sun Ray Probes are superior in terms of depth and NO cross talk with your detector's circuit.

Self Contained Units: Treasuremate or Uni-Probe. Uni-Probe makes a cleaver high quality Headphones with the electronics built in and probe attached.

Those 'CHEAP' ones are exactly that, and considering one customer I know who complained about sending it BACK THREE #$!$#!@$ Times.... suddenly, NO Bargain, in spite of its initiall Bundling Discount.

i have a sunray probe and love it more and more every day. much better than any of the hand helds ive used.

im running a sunray invader inline probe on my ace 250.Diffence is night an day im digging 1 to 2 inch holes now instead of 4 to 6 inch wihtout it
nad the finds are DEAD on EVERY time period especially those surface overloaded beeps.........

It's been about 8 years and I'm still using my 1st proto-type. I wish I had put a vibrator on it...

Hey Greg old bud, where you been. Haven't heard you in a month of Sundays. Hope all is well and the world is treating you like it should.

I have an Automax II and a Sunray on my GTI 2500. You have to almost touch the target with the Automax and the long probe is prone to breakage. I reinforced it with a bit of JB Weld and haven't broke it this time ( second one). And you have already heard about the Sunray, which by the way is a mini-coil rather than an actual pinpointer or probe. Both types work extremely well and I would not want to be without them. Jim

My 2500 is already a little on the heavy side as detectors go. Do you notice having a Sunray on it tiring your arm out any quicker?

Nah it's not even noticeable. Do you hip mount your battery pack to lighten the load? That'll knock off a pound or so.
