how many of you use trowel? how many use probe? I use a small trowel that i got when i bought my detector. is about 7" blade and rubber handel. i see probes for sale but donot know how hard they would be to use. i cut a 3 side plug and turn over treasure is almost always there. any input?

Most of my targets are deeper so i use a Lesche digger and cut a plug, then use my Sun Ray Probe to find where the target is. A few of my targets are not too deep and I can use the Sun Ray probe to locate them, then use my screwdriver to pop them out of the ground.
If I am in a well manicured lawn and don't want to dig, then I will just use my screwdriver probe and probe for the target and work it out of the ground.

Probes around here are only good in a very few places because of rocks in the soil..... Usually just cut a plug with a trowel or if it's really dry, leave as much of the grass attached as possible...

Depends on the depth, if it is 6 inches or more deep it does make it tougher. I find once i can probe it to know where it is I can work the screwdriver around and get the ground lose and pull the target out with no problem.
