probe on 3d

dem

New member
Is the sun ray probe the only one compatable with the 3d? are there others to compare prices with? thanks

Sunray is the only outfit I know that makes probes to attach to your unit. Actually they are excellent pricey units that work well. Many prefer a pocket probe and are a bunch of different models of those made,,Personally VCO pinponting on a CZ is dead on and see no reason for adding a probe to your unit that adds weight and bulkiness but again many do well with them..I do carry a pocket probe myself and that works for me....

Love my Sunray probe. Only thing like it that I know of. Worth every penny. If you are digging iffy deep signals, it makes finding nail ends in the side of the hole a cinch. Definitely a timesaver, and makes your digs neater. I'd say I can recover twice as many targets using the inline probe than if I were trying to do it without. I do not like the handhelds, not enough depth and too bulky to carry. The probe clips right on to the machine. Hits that are under 3" on my 3d, I can use the probe to pinpoint and then probe with screwdriver and pop out using the digger so I don't have to dig a hole. Targets on the surface are a cinch. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

I agree with Nick hard to find targets are a snap.If that was going to be your main detector used I would go with an in-line probe. But like Dan says it will add weight and be expensive. The reason I would go with the Sunray its like an extension of your detector and it performs much better than the hand held unit.

I remember hitting a park and getting signals in holes someone else had dug. I flipped up their plugs, waved my probe over it and recovered a buffalo nickel and 4-5 wheaties out of this person's holes. The were all pinpointed off center, and they didn't have a clue where the target was.

I think you have gotten some good info and agree the Sunray probe that attaches to your CZ probably gives double or triple the depth of convential handheld probes( remember every product has its plus and minus features) certainly not going to downplay or trash Sunray as they make a excellent product for sure..I just use a Sherlock probe made in Germany and properly adjusted gives me about 1.5 inches is extremely small and fits into my back pocket and wouldn't be without it as it comes in handy for increasing
my efficiency in removing targets from the ground and above all helps in not scratching your target..Heck some fellows never use a probe so I guess its up to the individual detectorist...
