The Sun Ray probes are better for me.
Can't answer for you.
Most of the arguments against inline probes are made by those who have never used them.
Weight - the most common "con" really is a non-issue. The entire unit only weighs 10 ounces, and is mounted near the control box. In fact, you can mount the probe on the control box if you want. Or, while hunting, stick the probe in your pouch or pocket.
Wires - properly mounted, wires are less of a problem than headphones. I've never had a problem in brush. Ever.
Cost - can definitely add up if you have several detectors. If you have just one, the inlines are so durable, they will easily outlast handhelds. I've had the same DX-1 mounted to no less than three different DFX's and one V3i over the years. It's still going strong.
The weakest point of the hand held pointer is generally the switch. especially the kind that you have to keep the button depressed while you use it. The switch wears out or water enters the pointer. The inline probe is pretty much immune from this, though only the probe part is water proof, the control is certainly rain, snow, or dew proof. Just don't set your detector in a water puddle.
As with everything, you can gather all the information available, but ultimately, only you can answer that question.
