Probably sounds a silly question regards Whites 6000 Pro XL coil

I recently bought a used Whites 6000 Pro XL in excellent condition ( amazing machine after learning to tweak machine for different applications) from Ebay
Now the Question is this the detector came in box part assembled with the coil (9") attached and noticed almost at once that the coil is on back to front and that is the coil is facing the wrong way or is there no right way seems to work well and balance seems good. Or is it that is why the guy sold it as didn't seem right to him too, I emailed him about it just asking respectivly and he will not answer me I think he is sorry he sold it. As I said it dosn't worry me I am just wondering if some models come this way or not. I hope this doesn't sound too silly a question but it is important to me as want best performance if possible
Will try and post pic to show what I mean ( Hope I'm not getting paranoid but detecting on beach today another guy doing same looked at my detector in a weird way ! )
Cheers
Geoff

It's on backwards.. Remove the coil screw and nut and reverse it..

I'm glad I'm new at this else I would really look stupid LOL !!
Thanks for input
but all the same does anyone know if it slows down performance as balance of
machine in weight distribution in this coil confguration is perfect compared with my old Garett ground Hog

Many guys turned the coil around for a different weight distribution. The coil will work the same either way. Guys would turn the big Whites DD around on the DFX or MXT becuse the coil felt too heavy. Rob

Might cause some falsing as the rod and coil cable is over the center of the coil..

Just found out the previous owner used it that way ince new and found gold so I dont feel so bad now but will still turn and try thr meant to be way
Thanks all for input

Rob is correct. Several machines in the 70's were made with the coil that way round (Pacemaker for one) and it was the best way to extend your detecting time if coil weight was a problem.

I have seen many folks mount the 1400 DD coil that way. It tends to balance better. Whatever works best, and feels best for you is what you should work with. It won't make one bit of difference on the ability for the coil to detect targets how you mount it.

Bunch of good answers and have seen fellows hunt with coils mounted backwards but personally would mount in the proper way..May be mounted this way for shipping or perhaps the fellow you bought it from was a newbie..Heck even saw a guy walk backwards on a beach while detecting so who knows and whatever works...

Thanks so much for that guys I thought I was crazy and had to laugh out loud at the detector person walking backwards ,,Who knows maybe that works for him too as they say different strokes for different folks or as we say down here horses for courses

Happy hunting Will try new position of coil Tommorrow on beach will let you know how I go as they are ploughing up old sand dunes here for new lookout and hope to find some real old coins and maybe who knows what else .. No one has been there yet as done yesterday by contractors and they will not be there when I go & I have a positive feeling it will be like a jewellery shop unearthed as used to be a popular "upmarket" beach in the 50's & 60's going by research !!!
Cheers

Very Good

I heard another one the other day some one said to his friend you are so lucky !! "Regarding Luck" & and he said ( It's Strange The harder I work the luckier I get !)
Good Luck Hunting:

I did that and It was like it was glued on after 15 minutes finally got it off and turned coil around it had been that way for a long time even end of coil wiring had to be retaped and hidden dust as I think probably from new like that since found out that was the case and also that it can be used both ways although it gives me more length now as was too short before ( I think i's good to pull your machine apart now and again to become familiar with it have a nice 3.5 snoop to try as well)
All Good now
Thanks for feedback
Happy Hunting

turn the lower rod around until the spring clip catches in the hole!..it's on backwards!

Oh no you are right!
I never was good with puzzles and knots at scouts
I notice now the wiring is a little tight and cramped without pulling it under pressure by the coil
Thank you for a simple explanation .. now I do feel silly but accept with humility
Thanks again for helping simple newbies
Now I will get on with some air testing ready fot tommorows detecting
Cheers

these things can happen to anyone!. your.pic explained it all,and was very clear as to what was wrong!..best of luck with it!
