Probably a stupid Question...

Just for fun, I've been using a friends detector. It's a bounty hunter. Anyways. I am wondering if it is water proof? By that, I mean the bottom of it, the search thingy. Sorry to sound so stupid, but I have never used one before, and wanted to search a near by shallow creek, and curious to see what part(s), If any, can be put into water. I know the top part where the batteries go can't go in. I'm not THAT dumb! lol. But how far up can be put into water and be okay. I don't think it is any kind of special water proof type, in fact, I know it isnt. Thanks for any advice and help:)

Hello Makaylasmommy ,
The search coil is supposed to be waterproof, as long as you wash it after you done I don't think there should be any problem. Happy hunting

Yes, the coil and pole up to just shy of the control box can be submerged without any worries...Just keep the control box and the plug end of the wire dry...some even put a plastic bag over the box for added security...

ya i have done it with my bounty hunter. its fine just dont tip the coil upright after its been in the water. till it drys. i have heard water can creep up the shaft into the box.

Welcome, Not a dumb question at all. Dumb is not asking and then frying your friends detector by mistake. Hope to see some pics of your finds soon!

Never feel like your ? is dumb. We all learned from somewhere. You came to the right place though because all the people here are great people. All the coils I've seen so far on the Bounty Hunter line are waterproof. Like said earlier be ever so careful not to get the connector at the control unit or the control unit itself wet. Make sure your footings you slip and you'll both be soaked. Also if you use a coil cover or protector you may want to remove it or seal it with silicone so water doesn't get trapped between it and your coil. Remember if you silicone it and need to take it off later then this could be a little bit of a pain. Happy hunting's.

Hi there, I have used all my bounty hunter coils in both salt and fresh water enviroments. If you do go beach hunting, cover the box from salt laden air and spray with a plastic bag, I sometimes use plastic cling wrap so the box and the top of the coil wire are sealed.
