Pro XL Coil Questions

Hi everyone,

I just recently purchased a Whites Pro XL with the standard coil. What do you guys recommend for the XL in smaller coils? I've read other posts and articles saying that the 5.3 Bullseye is excellent in trashy areas. What other types of coils from other manufactures do you recommend? How about the DD coils for trashy areas? I'm going to try the detector in remote/abandoned home sites and ghost towns here in NM. Should I use the standard 9.5 coil or the small 5" or DD coils for these sites?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

TC-NM

I keep the the 8 inch coil on my XL Pro full time for hunting old parks or large lawns. I never cared for the 9 1/2 inch coil. I keep the the little 6 inch Bullseye on my IDX Pro for hunting the worst areas. If you set the detector up right by adjusting the gain for your ground with the smaller coil you will loose very little in ground depths and get better hits on smaller targets like deep dimes and small jewelry.

I use my BigFoot Coil in trashy areas all the time. I just lift up the coil keeping the tip on the ground. I then skirt around the trash. saves me from changing the coils out. Gives me more time detecting! I recommend getting one for your XL PRO. Keep an eye out for one. I don't if they are still made, but I am sure you can find a used one for a good price!

I tried the smaller dd coil on my xl-pro about a year ago.Soil mineralzation here isn't a problem; therefore I found the loss in depth(I tried more sensitivty ,less disc , etc)to be disadvantagous.I seriously thought the coil itself was defective and my dealer gladly replaced it at no charge.More trial and error control settings brought the same results plus these coils indicate double depth readings(6"reading=3"depth). I then traded this coil for a 5.3 blackmax and have never looked back.Depth readings are fairly accurate and there is no apparent loss of depth;target separation is also excellant. The 5.3 also makes for a lighter and better balanced detector which allows for much longer excursions.thanks DBULL

Thanks to all responded but, I still have additional questions. No one has mentioned the Sunray 5" coil nor the Excelerator coils offered by Kellyco? OR will they even work on the Pro XL?

The 5.3 Bullseye or BlackMax seems like a pretty good choice.

Thanks,

they are the best choice!..trust me! and all the pros on this forum swear by them!..the "black max" is one of the very best coin shooting coils ever made, and when on the business end of a xl pro makes for an outstanding :sniping" combo!..NONE better in my opinion!

in addendum!..the bulls eye",or the "black max" has a wonderful "balance" when attached to a xl-pro!..set it up using (s.a.t) mode!..properly (g.b) the detector, and make sure (sig.bal) is adjusted properly!..slow down, and marvel at just how good the combination is for "pickin" coins in trash!..outrageous equipment!..that analog meter is "dead nuts" accurate on coinsized objects, and i believe it is the "best damn "shooter" ever made!

Everyone is talking about this "BlackMax" coil. I have seen BlueMax but not BlackMax. Is this a whites product? Does anyone have a photo of it?
Details please!

[size=medium]White's had the BlueMax series, which were concentric wound coils. They were mainly 6

Thank you Monty! That answers my question perfectly. Is there any quality differences between the older coils and the newer ones?

In other words, should I spring for a brand new 5.3, or attempt to locate an older "white one"?

For example, I see a new 15" coil at kellyco, and a used "white plastic" one on eBay.

I know there should not be a difference, but hey you never know?

[size=medium]all that difficult to locate a clean-and-decent new, or nearly new, 5.3 BullsEye or 5.3 Black Max for a reasonable price. Heck, you might even find a dealer with one and willing to deal.

If I could have just two coils for the XL Pro (or an XLT) it would be one of the 6

Thanks! I will make the calls to my local dealers and see what I can find.

If anyone has any coils they want to sell, and can take pay pal let me know!
