pro pointer problems???????

Active member
After a few years and lots of holes dug I have noticed a peculiar problem with my pro pointer. Lately whenever I exert the slightest pressure on the pointer, when probing for my target I get falsing. I have even tried it where there is no metal nearby it sounds off. Tried fresh batteries and it still does it. It dosent do it every time, however it is doing it enough for me to possibly think I have a problem. It also will occasionally just start heeling like crazy just when I'm holding it in the air. Anyone else had any problems like I have listed? I think they are the best pointer out there and haave been pleased with its performance.

Cell phone, ring, or other jewelry possible effect
or visit to Garretts:unsure:

I have had mine a year and a half and if I put to much push on it while searching for a target it will false a bit. thought it was normal. It doesn't bother me much. If yours just started doing this maybe Joe is right, maybe a visit to Garretts.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago. Sent mine into Garrett and when I got it back it worked like a charm. Plus it looked like a brand new one. From what I understand, when the coils are put into the unit they pour epoxy inside the tube and it's permanent. When I got mine back the only thing left from my old one was the battery cap with the serial number on it. A friend of mine is the senior technical manager for Garrett and his department handles all the repairs that come in. Their goal is to have your repair done the same week you send it in and have it out by Friday. And this has been my experience with them. Their customer service is top notch!

I carried my Infinium down to them one Saturday recently; it was repaired and shipped back to me by Friday of the following weekend. If I understood the receptionist correctly, Garrett will try to repair walkins while you wait, there just was not a guy on duty that particular Saturday that did Infiniums. I was still quite pleasantly surprised...

Once in a while mine will go off for no apparent reason, but I noticed that when it does that it's usually when it has dirt or mud caked on it. I think that I pick up dirt with a little rust particles in it. When I clean the dirt off, it works normally. I live thia thing!

Just bought a new one doing the same thing right out of the box. Sent back earlier this week for a new replacement. They said there could be something in the tip cracked. Tom

It gets worse when the ground is wet...I have no probs in dry ground...
