pro pointer problem

New member
Hi guys,

i bought a pro pointer in June 2010 and dropped it at the waters edge and obviously it wouldn't turn off, so i sent it to the shop where i bought it and they sent it for repair to south Australia. It came back and is still broken it won't turn off. I rang the shop again and they can't help me they say it's corroded, now it never went in water at all it was dropped only once and was taken to the shop for repair within 24 hours so i question the results of corrosion. I paid $240 for my pro pointer am a pensioner too so a new one is out of the question. Can anyone help me to get this serviced it's well within warranty and was 5 months old at time of repair. I will keep you all updated on this matter i would hate anybody falling into the same trap as me.

Regards Mrs M. Sameit..

[size=large]just to be accurate we are talking about a garrett pro- pointer. so why would your dealer send it to aussie land? time for a new dealer. you said you paid $240.00 for a pointer you can get from most garrett dealers for $140.00. sounds like you need to get some big bruisers to go with you to this dealer and get a refund. a lot of red flags on your story. also sounds like a grain of sand is keeping the button open. you sure this crook sent it out?

Should have sent it to the factory. Contact sue.wilson@garrett.com and tell her your problem.

Bill

If it was just that easy:cheekkiss:

Customers of Garrett products purchased in Australia is said to have the same services and warranty here as in USA, all products purchased here at an inflated price will have to go back to the Importer/Distributor for a scrutinizing inspection before any service would ever be considered,...............even then........!

I have some very real first hand :rage: experiences with the lack of service one is subjected to in :ausflag: My last satisfactory:thumbup: Garrett service exchange took place via a :usaflag::garrett:dealer in Oregon.

To Mrs M. Sameit..good luck to you in contacting Garrett direct.

Yes we are talking about the Garrets Pro pointer, a wonderful tool until i dropped it at the waters edge. I got it for my Birthday in Jun 2010 it was 5 months old at the time of repair. As a pensioner i won't be getting another one if it can't be repaired.I am reading up on lots of comment re the pro pointer we may come up with something.

Cheers Maureen..

Thanks for that Bill i have written to Sue and also forwarded an email i sent to Garrett as i haven't heard from them either up to now, but i only sent my email today so they may answer yet.

Cheers Maureen..

Thanks Ivan

i haven't heard back yet from Garrett but there is till time as i wrote to them today. Also the price of my pro pointer seems a bit steep at $ 245 Ozzie i saw one online for $115 so there's a tip.Cheers and thanks..

Yea, thats a lot of money for the Pro Pointer, especially since the Aussi and American Dollar are about head to head right now.
Didn't your pro pointer come with a little holster? I always put my pointer back in the holster immediately (on my hip)
after using it.

Ive had the propointer for two years and the first thing I did was cover the speaker with black
elecrical tape.
It has been momentarily dunked in water and watery mud never had any issue with it
not working.
The only time I could not turn it off is when the battery was almost exhausted,
then it went crazy sounded like a car siren.
Fixed that by putting fresh battery in it and good to go.

Good tip Mrs.M.
I've learned my lesson from those people the hard way years ago and decided they deserved the same level of custom support and courtesy as they give.
These days I shop where service and value for money is best, every $ count when one is a pensioner.

Yep katz i do have a holster and use it all the time, but it slipped out of my hand i guess it can happen. I was going to put tape over the speaker as it vibrates i don't need to hear it,that is a great feature the pro pointer has.

thanks all you guys for your help and it is fixed now and guess what it was the flat battery one would think the experts in the shop could have told me that.????

Cheers Maureen..
