Pro pointer and MXT interference

I was touting how well the Garrett pro pointer works on a previous thread but I just wanted to give a heads up for MXT users. When you turn on the PP you will get some EMI on the MXT. This hasn't bothered me cuz I turn off my MXT as soon as I'm able to get a signal from the target on the PP. I tried it with a couple of 6.59 khz machines and didn't notice any EMI with those. I still love the PP and it has completely streamlined and accellerated my recoveries. Not having to pick up my main machine and twist and contort to locate the target several times has also made it physically much easier to locate and retrieve targets. If you have an MXT, though, and are cosidering picking one of these PP's up, be advised about the EMI issue and make the right choice for you. Hope this helps.

Mine does that also but not bad I always lay my MXT to the side and use my pro pointer and as long as its a foot or so from my coil it doesn't bother it .I always shut my pro pointer off except when I am using it. My MXT will do the same way if another detector gets close to the coil also .

 Morning srf2112, I just got in about 45 min ago only found $1.44 and mostly in the tot lot. Thanks for the heads up on the PP. I've never used one myself, only the Whites 120. and not that much since I got a DX-1 a year ago, tho I still occasionally use my Whites for goodies the MXT shows just under groound. I can hear the sound of the DX-1 down to 5" in moist ground but only down to about 4"s in dry. I've not heard of any emi when hunting, even with my buddies XLT unless we get within 2 to 3 feet of each other so no prob. No one around here sells the Pro Pointer anyway. Thanks tho.

2 MXT's, DX-1, lotsa coils.

PS By the way, I used the 5.3 at the softball field and a small tot lot and it works real good, gets between a lot of junk. KC HH all.

I've never had a problem with my pro-pointer and my MXT. It's my M6 and PP that don't get along at all. For what it's worth, the Omega gets along well, too.

Interesting and nice to pass on. I've never used one since I have the DX-1 and it doesn't leave my sight nor my MXT. HH, Nancy

That's interesting kraykepler. I know very little about the electronics involved but it appears that every machine, including the pin pointer has it's own unique frequency that varies slightly from unit to unit. ( Larry ?!? ) I think a good idea for anyone picking up a PP in-person would be to take your machine to the store and check out several of them to find one that 'gets along". That is only if it is going to be an issue for you personally. Quite honestly it's not a big deal to me at all and from the other responses, doesn't appear to be for others. Just trying to save someone an unwelcome surprise.

I use the pro pointer, and MXT. No problems at all, as long as I lay the machine a foot or two away. HH

...all you have to do is flip the toggle switch on the side of the headphones to temporarily turn them off while using your pinpointer.

Not a problem for me either if I keep a foot or two distance between the MXT and Pro Pointer.

I'm glad it's not turning out to be a problem for anyone. Just didn't want anyone to pick one up on my recommendation and then be bummed out. I tried it again, laying my MXT further away, and it pretty much went away. I tend to set my machine close to me. Not a problem for me in any case. I love the thing.

Just noticed today that the MXT in relic mode, with trigger forward, interferes with the PP. Not sure why it does this in this mode and not others.

I've never had a problem, unless I accidently pass my PP too close to the coil. I set the MXT control box down beside my knees and that puts the coil a good 2 feet from where I'm digging and probing.
