Prizm's recovery speed?

Dan-o

New member
Do the Prizm's have a Fast or Slow recovery speed?
Besides the Tesoro line, are there any low to mid priced detectors that have a Fast recovery speed?

Dan

All of the Prizm recovery speeds are really slow except the Prizm 6T. The 6T is the real cream of the crop. A fun detector. I had the Prizm V and found the recovery speed frustrating. The 6t has auto ground tracking. The V and below have a fixed setting.

How about the Classic Series and the Classic ID?
Did they have Fast Recovery?

Dan

I traded off a Prizm IV due to slow recovery speed.

Up until very recent I owned an IDX Pro. It had the modification. This detector was a real winner. There is a bunch of threads on this forum about the Classic IDX & IDX Pro. Recovery speed was not an issue. A slow sweep speed is needed. But with my back that was fine with me.

Hi Dan
I have an IDX Pro that is modified by Mr. Bill at www.surfscanner.com. I talkind to him one time about the modification (adjustable ground balance & threshold) , and he said that the Classic series are as fast of recovery as the F75. I never played with a F75, but a buddy of mine has a T2 and it will not seperate as well as my IDX Pro which is the latest of the White' Classic series.Of coarse these machines are no longer in current production, but you can find mint condition ones on the Classified's.

Thanks for the replies. Always wanted to try a Classic Series.

Another question.
What is the benefit of having a Slow Recovery? If none, why is whites making the prizm series this way?

Dan

I will say you will be pleasantly surprised on how well this detector hunts.. I have one, and on the recommendation from many, I purchased the small 4x6 shooter coil to hunt with.. This is a very good combo.. You could pick thru trash fast, and the depth you get with the small coil is remarkable..

I'm a believer.

Good luck Mark ( ohio )

I had a Prizm IV and the recovery speed (to me) is awful. After 2 months i bought a MXT and was blown away at how fast it is.I wish there was a quick fix to the prizm (1-5) series. It is an ok detector but needs a swift kick in the pants in the recovery area.
I wonder if it is possible to fix, like the mr bill fix to the classics?

I have a Prizm IV and the recovery speed on my machine is not slow at all as to compared to many other
machines that I've used... I can lay a dime, pulltab, and a nickel (for example) around 4 inches apart and get 3 distinct
beeps with a smooth sweep across all 3 using the 8" stock coil... I also have the 4x6 shooter coil and the objects
can be moved to around 1 inch apart (1 inch between each object) and with a slow smooth sweep, all 3 beeps are heard and ID'd correctly...

I can also use, pulltab, dime, pulltab in that order, and disc out the pulltab and pick up the dime between the pulltabs.. Great separation
and good recovery with both coils, especially with the DD coil... Approximately 4" separation between targets with the 8" concentric
coil and approximately 1" - 1.5" with the DD coil...

Great separation and recovery with the 4x6 shooter and it's what I use the most on this machine, but the 8" is
not bad either... I have many detectors, including Tesoros, Whites, Fisher CZ's, and Minelabs.... Probably the fastest
recovery detector that I have, with any sweep speed, is the Minelab Advantage with the 7.25" DD coil... But the slowest is definately not the Prizm IV....
I will say that with the Tone ID on, the higher pitch on the coins seems to hit a little quicker than the standard mode... Just an observation...

But I can honestly say, if anyone has a Prizm, regardless of the model... The 4x6 Shooter coil is a great addition.... Basically the same
depth on my Prizm IV with the stock coil and deadly in trash.....

Happy Hunting, Jeff
