prizm v question

thinking about getting a prizm v , mainly for hunting school yards and such for coins, rings, jewely. i'm sure it would be great for that. but how does it perform on older deeper coins and relics. and does whites plan on making smaller optional coils for the prizm besides the 8 inch. or should i just pay a little more and get a m6. i do like the looks and features of thr prizm v

I started with a Prizm 5 and loved it. I found lots of cool things. I then upgraded to an M6 and WOW!!!! what a difference. I went back over places I could have sworn I hunted out with the Prizm and I found bunches more deep coins. It was almost like I hadn't hunted the area before. In my book GO WITH THE M6 and never look back. It's just as easy to use as the prizm but will go way deeper and you have a great selection of coils to choose from. M6 for ever.

I have a Prizm IV and an MXT. The Prizm series suffers from not having smaller accessory coils for trashy areas. I emailed Whites and they don't seem interested in offering more coils for the Prizms. They're a bit pricey for what you get as well. In my opinion the 9.5" coil on the Prizm V is a move in the wrong direction. If you get a prizm, either also buy the 8" coil or pickup up a Prizm IV. All said and done, if you can afford it go for the M6 or an MXT. Either are much more detector than the Prizm. I like the Prizm for quick runs at tot lots and the like, but when I'm serious, I take the MXT. My two cents.

I use a QXT Pro as my backup to my MXT, now that is a real coin magnet and has the coil options of the LXT. You can get nice ones used on E-Bay lot cheaper then a new M6. These machines go very deep!!! Once you learn how to set it up you'll love it. Make sure you get program version 1.2:whites:

Still the Prizms are over priced compared to others brands with more features. The m6 is a pro model but weighs 1.5 pounds more. You can find new m6's for around $560 if you search long enough. Buy the m6

I use the Prizm 4 down here in Australia for old coins and relics and have no complaints in its performance. I would like a smaller 6" coil for it having said that though. I use the 8" enclosed that it came with. Here where I hunt our topsoil is very shallow, just a few to maybe 6, 8 inches deep overlaying a clay base. I mostly hunt old gold town/camp sites. So to me depth is not overly important, its performance in my environment that is the key factor and the Priz does all that I need it to. Simple, light, the misses loves using it when I dont and its not made in China. (we have an influx of cheap Chinese crap over here these days which even though those selling them say they are great they really are junk.)

Whites does need to make a 4 and 6 inch coil for the Prizms. I would have liked to see where you could notch out any or all segments. No smart notch. Let the hunter decide. Then drop the price by $100 and they would sell a ton of them. They are pretty good performers in a very light package.

Khouse is right. In my post I left out the fact that my Prizm IV is a pretty decent performer considering its limitations.

BB,
Yes all the Prizms do quite well. Not being able to set up the notches just blows it for me. I think just a simple change could put the full range notching in the hunters hands. Whites should make the change. While there at it let's have a M6 notch machine! Make it run on 4 AA batteries and shave a pound. That would be sweet! I would be in line for that one!

I'd be really interested if they made the M6 or the MXT into a ligher, sleeker machine. I have an MXT and the only negative comments I have about it are the combination of weight and handling characteristics. I use several Tesoro umax machines in competition hunts and their weight and speed are superb.

Just think you could be swinging a garrett. Talk about heavy and handling poorly.
