I have been detecting in an old park about 1 block from my house. I use a prizm II and have been very happy with it. I have found a few mercury dimes and barber quarters as well as some wheat pennies and buffalo nickels. The park was established in approx. 1895 and was closed around 1970. The nice thing about this is that almost everything found is old (coins). I'm having trouble getting a repeating signal from alot of the coins that i am finding. I get maybe 1 or 2 signals and then nothing. I have been lucky to dig some of the signals and find some coins. Today i found a 1944 mercury dime and a 1920 libery half dollar. I seem to be having trouble getting a repeating signal and i'm wondering is the prizm II is not going deep enough. What might be a good detector for getting deeper than the prizm? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

prizm II depth vs. other white detectors

It's a matter of opinion on which detector can go deeper..........The Prizms are on par with the Classics. A Whites dealer once told me 6 inches was the expected depth on the prizms in all metal and that seems about right.. Check with a local dealer get his input as he would know your area better than most.He can suggest a different machine that works well where you are..
Truth is most detectors go 6 7 inches and your there now. Some go deeper, but have to be set up properly to obtain the extra depth.
See if you can operate some from the dealers, and see how they do. A nice XLt will do a good job. A M6 likewise. A MXT,, There are also other makes and models noted for depth... Remember the best detector is "The one in your hand"............I will never forget I was using a Whites XLT retail $899.00 Suggested..and a hunting friend has a Whites classic III $349.00 suggested retail, I found clad coins all day. He found 6 pieces of Silver at 5".... down to 7" all Mercury dimes...and the truth is I hunted the same areas he found the dimes in. So the proposed depth does not make all the difference..digging the targets makes the difference.....Understanding your machine makes a big difference...and above all where your hunting makes the difference..........Sounds like you found a good spot and are figuring out what makes your machine tick.... Most detectors will pick up coins down to 6 or 7 inch inch mark.
95.9% of the coins I find are less than 6 inch deep
The Key is to LEARN YOUR DETECTOR.
I have a XLPRO and M6 and a Minelab But I love MY XLPRO the best.
I know that detector inside and out.
Now that M6 is also a top ended coin killer.
Oh I do have a Prizm ll and found tons of stuff with it.
The key is to LEARN the DETECTOR.
Most of the the detectors are very good coin hunters.
I repeat LEARN and RELEARN the detector.
