Prizm 6T questions.

Dropped by my local dealer today and they lent me 6T to check out! (Along with an MXT too!!!) Pretty pumped to finally get out after the freezing temps have finally went back north! Ran the T6 through some tests and seems to be right on the money for ID. How are they for depth? Going out tomorrow and do a strictly foil/jewelry hunt (using both machines) at a city freshwater beach that has seemed fairly decent in the past. What kind of coils would you guys run with for that kind of hunt. (I have all the small Whites coils from the shooter to the 10' DD (from my DFX) for the MXT, but just the 5.3 for the 6T. Going to take what I've learned here and see how it goes. I know my DFX well but I'm in new territory, in going strictly for jewelry, with two new machines. (Worked with the MXT a bit before, but not enough to "know it".) My goal is not to dig one quarter and tons of foil !!! Turn 'em back in on Friday...darn! Any advise would be Greatly appreciated.

I don't think the 5.3 is for the Prizm. Everyone is waiting for the small coil for Prizm models. I have not read that it has been released. I would make sure. I own a 6T,and I'm very impressed with it. I really can't explain depth, because of so many factors. I would say that it holds it's own very well. I like using it with as little discrimination as possible. That sounds like a no brainer, but there are a few explanations. Compared to other Prizms I have the VDI numbers. Very accurate. Even in the all metal mode the target ID works great. Plus all of the features are right there at your finger tips. Easy to change in and out of modes, discrimination settings, tracking, and vco. I really don't think any other detector in the line up is as user friendly. Check that 5.3 coil & good luck.

Unless the small coil has literally just hit the shelf I believe the smallest Prizm coil is the orignal 8".

Thanks guys, I'll just run with the stock coil then. (I'll talk to somebody, on Friday, and see if there's a delivery date for a smaller Prizm coil.) Hopefully the rain lets up so I can get out !

Well here is my tale of UGH !! bought NEW Prizm 6T first the two rubber washers fit BUT the space between the coil where fiber rod is to go along with the
non metal bolt and thumb nut .. even if i tighten all the way the coil will flop all over the place once i start to sweep it on the ground !! got this as a Xmas gift to me from me !! so i call Sweet Home and get the OH !! maybe coil once out of mold may have not cooled right, send it back which i will do next week...

i sent them an email in regards to do i have to pay for this exchange etc and still no reply When Ken White SR was in charge back in 1963/4 i knew things would get done right... NOW i did try thicker washers still no good as i am afraid i may crack coil if i tighten fiber bolt and thumb nut harder...

my time using my new 6T was 3 hours of flop flop flop 1 nickel 2 dimes & five zinc pennies.. such is life..am i MAD as all heck you bet !!! aother thing is the metal pop caps those that are on beer bottles 32 ounce size etc even with disc on screen it seems to favor the pop tops over coins..any ideas

well back to reading all the fun comments i can Happy New Year to ALL and keep on finding all those lost items

Whites is still known for making things right. I see compliments on their customer service all the time. Carl from Whites pops up on this forum once in a while. Try asking for him over the phone. You had the misfortune of the Holiday season disrupting things. I buy Whites because of their customer reputation. Please post a follow up when you get things taken care of.

is it perfect? ... No, but it i a great detector for the class it is aimed at competing with, and with a smaller-than-stock coil it is going to be appreciated even more. Trust me! :)

With the stock 9" spider coil the Prizm 6T can hunt well in open areas, such as a beach or open field, etc., but it isn't the tool for trash. A smaller coil is.

While it has a very fast auto-tracking circuitry, like the MXT & M6, is still doesn't operate quite the same. Yes, it is a slow-motion, quick-response type, and the notch segment discrimination is first rate, but it just works differently.

I like my 6T for a lot of hunting, but I still plan to get a new MXT 300 mainly for working the 10" DD coil in old parks and similar sites.

Let us know what your thoughts are after you surrender them to the dealer.

where can one buy a metal detector stand / hanger for storing your detectors or does someone have plans for a homemade one? thanks

Check out Home Depot or a local hardware store. I bet a garden hanging rack would work well (after a little customization). Simpler still could be a U- hook. If hanging in a garage, make sure it has a consistent temperature as freezing can play havoc with electronics!
