Prizm 6t feedback

I am getting ready to purchase my first detector. I have been looking at the Prizm 6t. Any thoughts about this machine as a first detector? Is this machine a good detector overall? Thanks for your help.

I haven't had the opportunity to use the 6T, but did have a Prizm IV for a while that I traded because of several little issues that didn't suit me. On reading about the 6T after it came out, the issues that caused me to trade were not present in the 6T and I have yet to read any seriously negative comment about it. I think it's a good detector overall and a decent choice for a beginner. The real decision in my opinion is debating on whether to spend another $100 or so over the 6T and purchase the M6. I believe either detector would serve quite well for general detecting purposes.

Probably should shoot that question at Monte or some of the others that have actually used or tested both. I know Monte is a big fan of the M6 and thinks well of the MXT. I use an MXT a fair bit of the time which is more or less a big brother to the M6 with separate modes for Relic and prospecting so I'd probably go for the M6 over the 6T because of familiarity and the fact that I already have a good selection of accessory coils that fit both the m6 and the mxt. I'm thinking that you'll get opinions favoring the M6 if your budget allows, but to be fair, you need to hear from some users that have used both.

The only advantage the M6 has over the 6T is the ability to change coils withe MXt, DFX, and now the V3. Other than that the 6t is every bit as good. The 6t is in another class when you talk about the Prizm line. The response time is very much faster. There is a beach setting, VDI numbers, and a back light. And the unit has Auto tracking where the other Prizms have a preset ground balance. I have a 6t and really enjoy it. There is a shooter coil available that is very good. Together with the stock coil , that is all you will ever need. Of course these coils will only fit a Prizm detector. But if your not planning to upgrade in a year or so it is no big deal.

It goes a little bit deeper than just coil selection. There are 21 coils that will work on the M6, MXT, DFX and V3 and the M6 uses the standard AA battery pack for 40 hours of use. The 6T uses a specialty pack for 25 hours of use. The M6 uses the 15 KHz frequency like the MXT and DFX which might prove to be better at small gold detecting and EMI rejection. The 6T is 8KHz with limited coil selection and the M6 has an additional $100 White's bonus bucks until the end of June. I would also believe the M6 would have a better resale price a year or two down the road as well. I think I would recommend the the M6 over the 6T.

I agree with what you said Larry . But I still like the 6t. I never liked the DFX. I would love to try the V3. Maybe someday if the 401K recovers.

The 6T is a pound lighter and sounds like it might be the one for you, but the clincher for me is the M6 can use the SunRay DX-1 pinpointer. I would be lost without my DX-1.

I'd agree that the DX-1 pinpointer is a very strong point. I have one on my MXT and it beats all separate handheld pinpointers big time.
I miss it when using my detectors without it.

The coupon comes with the detector from your dealer or White's and is good for $100 in White's merchandise.

Thanks...I bought the M6 from a company called Kellyco it was the same price as the 6t plus lots of extras
