Prizm 2 sucks

Mr T

New member
I bought a P2 unit 7 days ago and hunted with my bud who bought an Ace 250 14 days ago. After about 3 hours of hunting I realized the P2 was not near the machine the 250 was. I tried to return it today to the dealer & got treated like dirt. Will never buy anything from White's Electronics. I was very disappointed in their customer service. Hope no one else falls in the same predicament.

One dealer doesn't represent all White dealers. My theory is always do your homework before you buy. Sorry that you don't like the P2. Is that what the dealer recommended? Some dealer provide great service while some just sell detector as a side item and aren't helpful.
Maybe you can sell the P2 and upgrade to something better that you will like.

A Happy White Owner (MXT)

Oak -- sweet home Alabama

PS .. I also own an Ace 250 and GTP1350

Very well said Oak, Mr T, you made the final decision to buy....Sorry you did not like the p2. Did you ask people on forum first, or just complain it sucks first. Asking on forum might have saved you some time, hopefully you can sell it, or trade it in. My friend in Florida has a p2, he does not like it either....

Try hunting with the ACE 250 and see what you think of the difference. I had a 250 but sold it and bought a Prism IV, which I like much better. I could not get use to the 250. It was hard for me to read the screen and despite numerous instruction on the pinpointing, I couldn't get the pinpointing down.

So what about it, you other Prism owners, would you trade for a ACE 250?

On what detector to buy, went off half cocked bought the machine, didn't take time to learn it then posted negative stuff on here about it. Lets My first detector was the Whites XLT...researched and saved for 4 years, took the time to learn it and love it to this day...second detector Minelab Excal 1000, researche and asked questions for 18 months then got it for Chirstmas...waiting for snow to melt before I really get out and hit the beaches...but will never post a negative comment about it if for some reason we don't develop a love ship for one anothe!!

Mr. T, Sorry to hear about the P2, I think you may have a bad one. I can't say anything bad about the 250, it's a great little detector, but my choice would be the P2. I also can't say enough great things about Whites Electronics, they are by far the best of the best in the MD industry. You will find good and bad dealers of all brands, try contacting a multi line dealer for a trade.

Dude! You have to give it some time for it to get used to you. Once it warms up to you, you wont be sorry. you'll kick that Ace'es a s s all over the park.

Quite frankly, I don't think you have had the detector long enough to make any judgements as to wether it is a good detector or not. Instead of being so negative tell us why you feel it is not as good as the 250. What did the 250 do that your detector would not do? After 3 hours of use how can you honestly make that call. Their are folks on this forum who have the same detector as you, so ask them for some advice. Dennis in Idaho

Bought the Prizm II around two years ago. I just turn it on all metal and go. Used it for 5 months and found 4 gold rings, 17 silver rings and about 500 in clad and a few silvers. I then bought the greatest detector on earth...won't mention the name. Id take my Prizm any day over it. Just pulled my Prizm back out last month. After my little son nailed a gold two tone plat/14k ring. I was using the greatest detector in the world and have not found a gold ring in 3 years. ...but some silver coins at 8 inch. Not bad but just not me. Prizm II found 2 more two tone gold rings and 5 silver rings. I know where everything hits and it is on. The all metal gives me 1 and 1/2 inch over the disc. mode as far as depth. For example, the greatest detector in the world recently hit on a quarter for me showing 6 inch. The ground was frozen so I could not dig. Came back 2 weeks later with Prizm II. Six inch is pushing it for Prizm II even in all metal. But BING loud and clear locked on quarter...however I know the machine so well I came off the ground an inch and was losing the signal. I thought the quarter is about 5 to 5 1/2 inch. Sure as heck I dug the plug way deep and well measured the depth and it was 5 and 1/4 inch...1960 perfect silver quarter. Another thing the Prizm II is deathly quiet on salt beach and sand and gets even better depth on sand...in all metal. Its just the baby brother to the other Whites..but its bigger brothers should be very proud of their little brother! I really like Whites! Just my 2 cents!

i have anew p5 that i got last year ive only had it out a dozen or so times but it still takes getting used too
u have to give it a chance ive seem 1 machine run circles over another on a certain day but the next time out it was the other way around ............got to give it a chance to perform and u need to learn about it

MrT,
Didn't you post on another forum about the differences of the two detectors? I seem to remember replying, but I can find the post. Maybe I'm wrong.
I like others feel you need to give it some more time. Go hunting with your friend. When either one of you get a beep have the other check the signal before you dig. That is a true test. Maybe he just got his coil over coins and you didn't? Then if you still don't want the P2 then your best bet is to sell it. Then buy what you want. Head to head the 250 has more options for less money. But the P2 should do fine.

I regret that they ever dropped the Classic range for the Prizm's.Top of range models are overpriced just adding bells and whistles. All share the same basic circuit and all have areas where they just don't work very well.
Where I live the depth range (9.5 coil fitted) runs from 6 down to 2 inches on a medium sized coin. The Garrett 250 tested on the same targets before digging produced 1-1.5 inches more (having said that I don't like the 250 either). Move twenty miles down the road and the Garrett performance is slightly improved and the Prizm matches it which is a considerable performance improvement for the Whites.
Seems there's some ground it just does not like.
This is acceptable for the price of the 2 but not for the 5. Spend a little more for the underated M6 and the performance drop between the two types of ground is very slight.

well just to be sure, why don't you get your friend with the ace to switch with you next time you hunt together.you use the ace 250 and let him use the prism and see who has the most finds at the end of the day.it will give you a chance to see if you like the ace as well as determining if it might just be the operator.don't be too proud to admit you don't know as much about detecting as the next guy, heck some of us here have been doin this for years and we're still learning.anyone will tell you, don't get discouraged, don't give up.take the time to learn your machine before you upgrade.it's just a tool, owning a detector doesn't make you a detectorist any more than ownig a hammer makes you a carpenter.use it!learn it! got it?
