Whats a used vaquero(old type grey one) with stock 8x9"coil worth? Not looking for looks ,but be in excellent operating condition.Maybe considering a trade for my new Compadre with 8"coil????cjm

As always, things are worth what people are willing to pay.
I have seen this model, about $450 new, sell for anywhere from $400 down to $225.
Depends on the seller, could be "motivated" and just wants to get something for a tool just gathering dust or a wife who's husband did this hobby then passed away and has no idea of value.

$300 sounds like a decent price to me if it is good shape, less even better.
A trade for a Compadre, that might be a wish and difficult but not out of the realm of possibility.

I got mine for 250 iirc. Older 20th anniversary model but with the adjustable GB machines the risk is minimal that the machine be messed up. Aside for an actual co.ponent on the board going bad, there's not much that can go wrong with it. The coil is more likely to be bad than the machine.
But there's a point to the thought, once you get tothe 300-350 range, it's worth the thought to just buy new and get the warranty. It's lifetime.

I agree. People have had good luck with used ones. But, if you do pay around $350 for one and there is something not right with it. The cost of sending it in, another $50 to have them check it out. You will be right around the cost of a new one and if it needs a coil. Well then you will have more money in it than a new one and no warranty coverage. It's just the chance you are willing to take. You could end up tripping over a dollar to pick up a dime sort of thing.

Yeah. I buy used when I get a good deal. Also if I can factor in the 75 to send in. ~$25 to ship and $50 for Tesoro on the factory GB'd units.

If I knew the machine, the person selling it, or was able to try it out first. Yes i'd grab one up. But, just buying one online from a stranger is a risk i'm not willing to take with something like a detector. Yes, many have had no issues with used and some do though. I would not pay no more than $300 - $325 for a used one in perfect condition anyhow. I don't care what anyone say's.

I tried to sell a very nice one and couldn't give it away. I've seen others have the same luck. Glad I didn't buy mine new.

Buy used if you can unless you know it will be a lifetime machine.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner.. It was a newer black Vaquero.

Dang. I didn't see it or I might have bought it.
Price goes down after the first owner.
The way I see it half the price of the detector is the warranty.
But out of production machines are different lol.

Maybe people just don't want to buy from Individuals? I see several "dealer" sellers, selling used ones for less then 50.00 less then new, and they are almost sold immediately. I see the same machines advertised by regular sellers that struggle at half the price.. That's the only thing I see different. I'll add, I've bought used on many forums, just bought 2 on here, that were as described, "used" and they were exactly that, obviously used but in perfect useful condition. Save a bunch. When I see something for sale by a forum member that's been around the forum for 2 years plus, and doesn't appear only posting to sell, I don't have a doubt the item will be fine. Kind of glad there is a minimum post limit here, even though I still don't have enough posts to sell, I think it makes it safer. Doubtful someone is going to make a couple of hundred posts just to get the better of someone....Just my opinion.
