With temps in the mid 90's....lots of mowing to contend with...and just flat out being busy...I haven't found much hunt time lately.
I have been kinda' sick and rundown since last weekend's mowing mishap at Dad's place as well.
To make a long story short..it was 97 degrees and I got hot real fast so I slipped off my moose leather moccasins and let them sit with me on the mower. Within 5 minutes I saw 2 HUGE, Jurassic Park lookin' yellow jackets...and they were ticked off so I tried mowing over them. Wrong move...because I got one ...but the other one stung the crap out of my foot... TWICE... which caused me to jerk the mower... which took me into a barbed wire fence cutting my shoulder. As I came out of the barbed wire fence I hear "ca thud...ca thump" and see one of my moccasins shooting out of the mower deck in torn shreds. A lot of bad things happened all in the matter of about 5 seconds.
Here's the pic of where the yellow jacket hammered my foot....and it made me feel crappy for nearly 3 days.

Here's the pic of my sweet moccasins....may they rest in peace.

I was finally able to hunt and got out for about 3 hours...any longer and I do believe my skin would have caught fire.
I hit my favorite site with my favorite coil in hopes of coaxing one more keeper out of the turf.
After 2 hours of fighting those big, nasty, biting black gnats...I had nothing to show for it other than some welts on my shoulders and back.
I finally wandered over to a spot in the shade where it was a little cooler...between a small section of trees where I had done well in the past.
Right on the edge of the treeline I got an intermittent warble..and although it was a high tone...it was not the textbook sound...it was more of a faint silver/copper type of hit which told me I had a shot at a thin/worn silver coin...possibly barber or seated.
From right at 10" down came the black, worn disc. I had no clue as to what it was for quite some time...so I started rubbin' it a little.

After the sun dried it off I could see the outline of the staff which I knew had to be held by a seated lady. I could also finally make out the date of 1891.

A few minutes later I got keeper #2 for my 3 hours of work...the old crusty Injun.

All in all a great 3 hours...but wow was it hot...and when we got home...Herky was ready to chill.
