Pretty Happy with my Tom Tune Up.

You can say I am a pretty happy camper. Got my 1021 CZ3d back from a tune up yesterday. I couldn't wait to give it a try. Went to an old site near the river today. I had forgotten how much fun the CZ is to use. I waded through a lot of iron and finally got that sweet, repeatable signal I have come to love. It rang clear from four sides. It wasn't a super strong signal but did sound good. I dug a huge plug with the shovel and was amazed the signal was still in the hole. I dug again and this time I could tell the signal had left the hole. The CZ was screaming at me and I couldn't see a thing that would produce such a great tone. I finally got down on my hands and knees and started moving dirt. The sun caught a tiny gem in the dirt. I have always dreamed about finding a half dime or a capped coin. I got a two for one deal today with an 1834. I also got two back marked flat buttons from the site.
A friend called and wanted me to meet him at a house site that we have hit pretty hard. He remarked that he would be happy if either one of us found a coin. My first good signal was an 1864 Indian. I got the half dollar as we were leaving. It was about seven inches deep and standing right on its edge. My first hunt with my newly calibrated CZ got an 1834, 1864, and a 1944. It was a great day for me.

What differences can you tell from after the tuneup than from before?

Same question as above but also did you notice any improvement in depth, or iron falsing, etc. Thanks.

Wow, this is a tough question. I have to admit I wasn't using the CZ much before the tune up. I had moved on to a F75 ltd and a Teknetics G2 for most of my hunting. I had actually gotten rid of the CZ3d that I bought new in 2008 because the 1021 out air-tested it. I had some second thoughts about that decision. The 1021 seemed to false more. It chattered a lot and I thought I chased some phantom signals. The biggest improvement is the the peace of mind knowing that everything is right with your CZ. Tom is not going to sugar coat something, he will tell you exactly what you have with your detector. I found the detector to be crisper with more distinct tones. It also locked right on target ids, It was fun to use again. The results speak for themselves at least in my mind. I haven't had a two silver day for a while and I have been hunting hard this year. I have never found a half dime. This coin was deep and mixed with iron. The fifty cent piece came from an area a lot of guys have hunted pretty hard. It was on edge and the CZ sniffed it out.
Having the CZ calibrated was a good move. I am no longer second guessing and I can relax and hunt. I had only air tested the 1021 to about 10.5 before I sent it in. I haven't tried an air test now but I think you gain more in precision and alignment than you do in depth. Mine was already pretty deep. Unfortunately, I hadn't used it a lot. I can tell you that the things that aggravated me about it are gone. It is elevated in my arsenal of detectors. It makes it easier to work on site selection and hunting technique instead of worrying about what detector to use. Hope this helps answer some of the questions.

I had mine tuned by Tom recently. Haven't had it out yet. Boy makes me want to get her out and see what she can do, been playing more with a new detector trying to get a good hand on it. Gotta put those hours in with a new machine to get confidence in it.

You are correct Cometguy, more accurate IDs and crisper audio report was what I noticed also. Nickels were hi ting high tone more consistently. It was worth every penny to me.

The first impression I had after Tom tweaked my CZ-5 was my volume was boosted and seemed sharper like the optometrist machine that you play better or worse on. In other words focus and volume were improved or maybe a power boost effect.

Kind of like a well tuned guitar.

I got my CZ used and was out of wack. If i put Disc on tab Nickles were Disc out.
It failed Toms Nickle test and he said it also had a deep tone smear and was off in salt mode .
Good as new when i got it back.
