pressure fitting or napkin ring?

Found outside my grandparents house, it's non magnetic and slightly larger than a quarter. Being completely smooth inside and its size lead a few people to say "maybe a napkin ring", dug it at about 5" and id'd at 89 (probably due to it's size). Any help would be appreciated.

No I don't think so. There are no markings on it at all.

Didn't think of that but don't they usually have a bent spot for the reel foot to fit in?

I am 51 and have been fishing all my life. I have had several cork grip poles with aluminum rings. As a matter of fact with the exact same pattern of angled ridges in the middle. The rings slide up or down and allows the user to position the reel anywhere on the grip to give the correct balance to the rod. I think the pic is deceiving and just looks like it is angled inward. I am sure if it's from a fish pole that the inside is smooth and of a consistent diameter. The rod would have been one that takes a spinning reel (spinning rod). Not all fish poles have a seat and a fixed reel position. Nowdays the rings are usually plastic and have the "bent spot" you mention. You often see plastic rings on modern ice fishing poles as well but that one looks like the ones from the 60's and 70's that would have been on a spinning rod.

Yeah the inside is consistent , the one side facing down does slope on the outside very slightly, but after your description charlie dert I'd have to agree about the fishing pole. Thanks every one.
