Preserving rusty relics

New member
I want to preserve some rusty relics,Im not trying to clean them just stop from any further oxidization.Like horseshoes. Im guessing just apply some oil to them . Should I use a light coat , or soak the heck out of them and what kind of oil should I use. I have Remington Rem-Oil , and sewing machine oil.

Hatpin, I watched a video on Youtube posted by Aquachigger, he show how he treats relics. Most of his finds come out of water. Check Him out.

I have tried many ways of getting rust off artifacts or relics if you will. Electrolysis, vinegar salt & water, molasses and other ways I have forgotten. For me, because I have never had anything delicate I wanted to get the rust off of, I tried sandblasting
