Wow...I have really missed everyone!! I took a little break from the site but I am super glad to be back and I have a lot of catching up to do!! I can't wait to read over all the posts!! The last time I posted something was three months ago so I will give you a mini update on some of our featured finds since then.
First, I will start with our outing today (pictured on bottom as a group). We went to a hunted out park on this seasonably warm day.. I have a feeling this winter will not give us the opportunity the last two winters provided.
My first signal and dig about 5 min into the hunt was a Merc!! That was pretty exciting and actually led to a productive day - much better than when the hunt starts out with a wheat penny - lol.
We were out for about 4 hours in roughly 45 degree temps. I decided to try by a flag pole and got a nice 1:44 signal. I had just dug up the Chrysler hood ornament with a similar reading so I was pleasantly surprised when Ms. Walker popped out!! It's my second one this year. I ran to show Rob and realized I didn't recheck the hole. There was another Merc and a rusty key (hence the big rust spot on the merc and walker- Rob did a good job of cleaning them up). So, my tally was 3 silvers at this point.
Then Rob and I moved to another part of the park and the sun was going down fast....I started whining a touch and told Rob ...let's go now. He said come on you can stick it out a little longer it might be our last opporutnity for awhile. I hesitantly agreed. About the same time, we both found something - he found a 1937 Buffalo and I found another Merc. After that, I was getting what I thought was a copper signal - I think it was 11:37 - definitely expected a penny and I saw the silver flash. It was a beautiful Sterling silver Mizpah pendant. Cool!! We thought it was a cut coin at first. Then I decided to dig one more signal even though it was most likely just a wheat. 12:44 ...whoa!! Ended up being a very worn 1919 Merc.
So nice day for us - One Walker, One Buffalo, Four Mercs, and Sterling silver pendant. Not too shabby!!
Over the last 3 months, we have had some nice finds. I'm not listing them all but just highlting some of our significant ones:
Rob has really had a stellar year. At our most recent club meeting he won first place for Copper find of the year with his 1828 Matron Head Large Cent (excellent condition) and he also won for Miscellaneous find of the year with a Sterling silver spoon. Recently, besides the 1828 LC, his other amazing finds are: an 1864 2 cent piece, a 1944 walker half, 1952 Franklin half, an 1816-1834 Matron Head LC (can't see date), 1907 IHP, and an 1893 Canadian LC penny. He did some damage to his bucket list.
I've been pretty pleased with the 2013 season. My silver coin total for 2013 is in the 90's now. Not sure if I'll make it to 100 before the New Year but this girl's not complaining. My feature coins for the last three months are an 1839-1857 LC (date not legible), an 1898 Barber quarter, and a few weeks back my oldest coin to date an 1817 Matron Head LC with a legible date!! I'm super thrilled with my finds for the year and so glad to share our fun with all of you!!
However, I have saved the best for last!! On the ring finger of my left hand resides a new piece of gold jewelry with some lovely diamonds....I said YES!!!
PS: I didn't get all the pics up becauase I was limited to 6 but you get the idea.
