PRE-EMPTIVE CLAD TOTAL for 2008

I tumbled and rolled all the clad I had in my treasure box this weekend.
I didn't detect for most of this year, for various reasons... mostly I had lost interest while pursuing something else.
I pretty much quit around the beginning of the year, and then picked it back up in mid September. So these totals include whatever was from the first month or so of 2008, and the last 4 months.

$1.00 coins . . . . . . . . . . . . $2.00
Quarters. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $25.50
Dimes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $31
Nickels . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $6.70
Cents. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $17.50
Total . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $82.70

I used several detectors over the year, not being brand loyal to any degree. Most of my time was spent with Tesoro, Garrett and Fisher instruments. I also had a Whites for a brief while. I don't expect my detector choices to change much in the coming year, although I may end up with another Whites.

With a few days still to go, I'll likely add another $5 or so to this. I plan to also add the 23 one dollar coins I collected over the year, just because I can.
This should bring the total to something around $110.

So what should I do with this new found wad? What would you do??

What to do with money?

Get old topo-maps--Cd's or print. I use both.

Good relic shovel

Good scoop for water hunting.

Small coil for your new detector.

Small scale.

Gold tester.

Diamond tester.

Calipers.

Gold coin.

GPS for the field. I got an old model cheap.

Head phones.

I know I went over budget.

You did well there if you hunt jewelry a diamond tester is always nice myself I could never wait to find out if its real. Dan

... whose opinions I value highly - thanks. Happy NewYear and Great Propserity in the coming season.

So lesse, which of your suggestions resonante?

Get old topo-maps--Cd's or print. I use both. - This I like. I have current topo's on CD...where do I get old ones?

Good relic shovel - Got one. I snagged a US Army entrenching tool of ebay. Not the shoddy tubular metal one, its one of the old style with the wodden handle. It's maybe the best detecting tool I've ever had. Paid more to ship than I did for the shovel Total cost, $17.

Good scoop for water hunting. - Now here's a great idea and I need one! I love water hunting in the hot months and the lake bottoms around here are sometimes composed of hard slate. A GOOD scoop is needed. Any suggestions?

Small coil for your new detector. - I am not feeling this one. I hear everyone say this, but I find the stock coil to be every ounce what I need. Im thinking a larger one, the F75 DD.

Small scale - Got one, off ebay again. $15, 100 gram capacity.

Gold tester. - Seems like a cool gadget. I'll call it a second choice, how's that?

Diamond tester.- Ditto

Calipers. - Got em, nice digital ones.

Gold coin. - that $%*^ has gone through the roof in the last month! I couldnt hardly see any gold coin $110 will buy! :)

GPS for the field. I got an old model, cheap. - Now this I like. Nice ones are going for about $50 on ebay.

Head phones - What is needed is excellent quality, open ones for the hot months. Any ideas?

I know I went over budget. - That's okay... me too. So lets just say the $110 will help "defray costs."
Water scoop, old topos and GPS, then. Any help you can offer as to selections would be greatly appreciated.

In the past I donated the total amount of money I found each year to the Special Olympics, but the last few years we've added to the amount I've found and some kids who wouldn't have had a Christmas otherwise got a visit from Santa. This year I found somewhere around $250, maybe a few dollars more. I could spend the money I find on new detectors, coils or whatever, but I think it serves a far better purpose the way we use it.

Here's one that 110.00 will buy I have one they are nice http://www.enviromintcoins.com/coins.html
