My Dad has been going through some forgetfulness for many years. Maybe worse now because of the loss of his wife. I'm not a doctor but I can only say what I have seen in my mother-in-law. It is the short term memory that goes first. She can remember things from a long time ago but things very recently she forgets.

We don't know how many times we have mentioned we are moving and she even came to the place where we are moving to. She has commented Oh are you moving? Do you know where you are moving to? And recently she asked my wife "What is your husband's name again?" It is getting progressively worse. Never thought she would forget my name.

She was told not to drive. She chose not to listen. She would up off the road some time back upside down for 2 hours before someone spotted her car off the road and called for police and ambulance. She said "You know I was drivining along and then suddenly you know how it is when you look up and there are cars coming at you from out of nowhere?"

She still drives even though she totalled her car. My Dad has come down to see us on one occassion and drve around town for 2 hours because he forgot where we live and couldn't find a phone number to call us. He now carries my business card in his wallet with my address and phone numbers on it.

I pray that neither of you suffer from Alzheimers.
