PP Excaliber 11

I was looking through the owners manual online and I notice you must turn a knob to go to PP mode from disc.
My question is if you have your scoop in your left hand how are you supposed to reach over to turn the knob without a trigger or thumb button to PP?
I been looking at them. Thanks!

I drag my scoop on a string so no problem, stops you loosing it in the water if you get hit too, also it keeps it well away from the coil. on the wet it leaves a trail so i know where i've been

i never use PP as you can in time tell where the item is very easy.and i put a SS dog snap in the grip hole of my scoop and snap it to my belt and drag it behind me.

I rarely ever use my PP either. If i need it i just dig the scoop down in the sand alittle so it will stand on it's own. My controls are chest mounted so its no hassel.

Pin point is the way to go with the Excalibur.

I've noticed that I can go deeper in the pin point mode. I have coins in my coin garden that are down 14 inches and in discriminate, the Excalibur cannot see them. But in pin point, I get a very clear signal that something is there.

Some of the better beach hunters use pin point almost exclusively. There is a reason for that. It works best in most instances.

Tie that scoop to your belt and you will have no problem with it. I also let it drag behind me and it marks where I have been in the wet sand.

If you are in pin point most of the time, you don't have to worry about switching to pin point. You are already there. I only use discriminate to verify if the target is worth digging. I dig most anyway but I can get a good idea of what I am digging.

I never used pinpoint mode with my Excal..Same goes for everyone I know who uses an Excal.

Everyones different. IMO there's really no reason to use it. as long as you know your machine.. and DIG

Regarding pinpoint/all metal mode. My Excalibur goes deeper in discim than it does on pinpoint!
I always got a clearer more defined signal time after time in discrim than I have ever done in pinpoint! So I rarely use pinpoint at all.

Here on my beaches there's just to much beach fence wire( lots of nulls ). If i were to run in PP all the time and switch to disc to check the target it would take to much time. I trust my Excal to do it's job. Found over $3.00 in clad and part of an old artillery shell dated 1943 today. No gold or silver yet with my new Excal, but having alot of fun learning the sounds. Thanks, by the way, for all the info you guys share with us newbies. Really helps me out alot.

I use pinpoint most of the time now too and its far deeper, i get targets that just don't register at all in Disc mode till i've taken of a good few inches of sand, the more i use it the more targets i find that i would otherwise have missed completely and they are usually good heavy ones too

I carry my rig and scoop on a unit I built like this...
Scoop holder design courtesy of GraveDiggerMax.
I hunt in PP and switch to Disc to check the target. Haven't found gold that way but definitely found many more targets.
I reach around behind and use the switch. I'm a lefty so I had to turn the unit upside down to allow me to use my right hand to operate the switch.

any chance you have a closeup pic of how its done? Ive seen it before, might have been on the beach forum though.
I have mine mounted on the rod up above my elbow, think they call that the florida straight shaft. its really long and a bit awkward at times so Im thinking of trying this setup out.

You will miss some deep targets if you stay in Disc. If you are fortinate enough to hunt around someone with an Excal in pinpoint that will let you run your coil over the target in Disc you will change your mind. It just takes a second to go from pinpoint to disc to verify a good deep target. That way you know there are no good targets left behind.:minelab:

hershey1,
as I said I have found the opposite. I get better signals in disc (set on min) than I do in pinpoint. My excal certainly doesn't get deeper in pinpoint. I tested this over and over as well. Maybe its my excal but thats how it is.
Comparing the two signals the better one was always in disc. I always found pinpoint on mine to be inferior. Yes I would have thought different but not in my case. Pinpoint/all metal was very disappointing in that respect.
