Powerline interference?????

New member
Hi all from downunder,
Went out last week to an old goldmine here in the topend and found a spot where some quartz viens had been dug up big time and a lot of detector diggings around it.
The run of diggings seem to stop just short of the overhead powerlines!!!
Is it true if I take my Infinium out next weekend I can tune out the powerlines and hopefully detect under them where noone else seems to have done any digging??

TRUE OR FALSE???

Cheers Glen

If the interference is power line related at 50.or 60hz then the Inf will do well in cancelling it out but if the interference is sporadic from radar, mbl towers, Air traffic control towers etc then you may not eliminate all of that type of interference but you should be able to reduce it.. My Inf operates well beneath our 50 hz HV towers. In a city area the inf will struggle to quiet the electrical noise and in these instances if you must use the Inf then use the small DD 10 x 5.

Its just HV powerlines running through the bush, my Dad has the large DD coil and I have the small 8" mono fitted at the moment so if we can cancel out the interference then we should have some fun!

When adjusting the Frequency control just turn it in very small increments and allow the electronics to catch up for a couple of seconds between each adjustment.
if you simply spin it around quickly in the hope of finding the sweet spot you will be spinning all day and getting nowhere.:twodetecting:

I concur on the Tiny increments, the one time I had to adjust while nugget hunting. they were the 60hz. power but i got it smoothed out pretty quickly. no experience with phone or other.

I wish you good hunting; That is a rich little bit of qtz and if the rest of the reef continues beneath the power lines then you may be on to something that the others didn't try for.:super:

Cool - I had Infinium find a fine layer of flakey/Powdery Gold in a 4' quartz vein that my VLF didnt read and a very small meteorite that my VLF didnt read either. Yes Finny is sensitive :hot:

How sensitve is the Infinium? I later broke the rock up for 2.5gm, put a 1.1gm piece out in the back yard and the Inf COULD NOT hear it!!!!!! But my Scorpion could hear it plain as day????
Prospector 62 the specie was on the surface but very dirty and didnt see anything until i give it a clean. I was using the 8" mono at the time.

Razor - Did U get a change in threshold (like a sizzle) at All on that little gold ? also - Adjust till You could detect it for test purpose ? Ken

Don't waste your time on Air Testing with the Infinium; Been there done that, accept that the machine does much better on in ground targets that have been there for a long time.
I have 1g bits that will air test at 6 inches and other 1g bits that donot sound off at all, there are far too many variables in play to try and get any indication of the machines sensitivity by doing Air Tests with nuggets.
Don't expect it to match the sensitivity of the ML GPXs on small nuggs, it just aint gunna happen.

If you work on the assumption that the Finny can find 1g bits and smaller under certain conditions and hit on 4 g bits all of the time with all of the coils then you should be able to relax while detecting.

One of the most important aspects of the Infinium is that you must scan slowly in order to hear the weak signals whether they be from surface targets or deep targets.
