Power Explorer XS

Hello,
knows anyone how much mA (mili Ampere) the Explorer gets out of Batteries. 100mA, 200mA, 300mA... ?
It

Not sure if that info is listed anywhere, but if you figure on average I get 10 hours on the 1500 mah battery pack it must draw about 150 ma per hour?...thats figuring it requires a full 9 volts from the 8 1500 mah batterys to operate? not sure how that works, but it works with the cheapest alkylines so your RAMs should work

Not with the nimh batterys.. they and nicads only rate at 1.2 volts..they might measure more without a load, but thats why I think the explorer only uses 9 v to operate.. with the Sov you needed 10 nimh batterys or it wouldnt even turn on, yet it ran fine on 8 alkylines. the explorer runs on 8 of either type....

I tried with a varible PSU connected to the XS
using my dry battery box (top cover Removed)
and at 9 V it played its dead battery tune and switched off,
it will still run at 9.5V, but the battery indicator shows its last quarter of remaining power, 12v will indicate full on indicator
the power consumption at 12V is 72 milliamps with no coil connected and around 100Milliamps normal factory settings ready to detect, and can rise up to 200MA with max audio output and detecting a large object using internal speaker, plugging in headphones reduces consumption to 125ma .
the back light consumes 10 Milliamps.
hope this helps

Thanks for that info....knew somebody would have the answers....

The Explorer actually operates on a 12 volt system. Even though only a 9.6v. battery system is used, the Explorer incorporates a voltage booster which kicks up the voltage to 12v. That's one reason that the 1500 mah (8-cell)NIMH battery pak only lasts for approx. 11 hrs. on a full charge. Other reasons for the extra battery consumption are the computer requirements, backlight and many features which are incorporated into the Explorer. Hope this helps.

Hello Rob,
great answer with all info you need.
Thank you.

Thanks for that info as well..I know my battery seems to get used up faster in areas with lots of signals.. I guess it has to use more power to report them then just running a theshold as well... Personally I like the amount of hours I get from a pack as its just about right.. most of my hunts are 8 hours or less and I can top it off that night to be ready for the next hunt.. I think I have only had to use my spare a few times in the field, and those are the times I didnt top it off from the last 2 or 3 hour hunt.... I also notice hunting in the cold the last few times out that it seems to be used up faster... with about 6 hours at 20 degrees.. of course 6 hours hunting in 20 degrees is plenty! hahah.....One other thing I can say that is pretty amazing to me is that the screen seems to operate without problems or freezing up in those cold temps I have been out in this whole month...
