Power Bank For Nox 800

It isn't a matter of needing it.
I would like to know if you run it that way, (with everything else being equal),
is it better, or worse, or have no effect, to the batteries longevity.

I’d say to treat the power bank as a charger - you need to keep tabs on it while it is actively supplying power.
The bank may use either lithium ion or polymer cells. The polymer cells get warm and expand when faulty; the ion cells can just explode. Each type has built in safeguard components but they don’t always work.
You are depending on the detector to shut off charging when charged and the bank to shut off if it thinks the detector is charged. Either one can cause trouble.

Hmm .. So you are saying that in the aforementioned configuration, is that the power bank is now supplying power directly, and the battery in the MD is not?
I would think the battery in the MD powers the unit, and then the power bank is charging the MD battery.
Hence the reason to know how that effects the MD internal battery.

The system could be designed several ways. But you said connected 24/7 so when the 800 is off I’d think it is in charge mode with the bank supplying power to charge the battery and this is where I’d check on it now and then. If 800 is turned on I’d think whatever has highest voltage will supply power. If the 800 battery is low the bank charges it same time as supplying 800 power.

Hi
this is of interest to me too.
I have only just assembled my newly delivered nox 800 and it's on charge as I write this.
The Quick Start guide says the following "You can go detecting as usual when connected to a USB power bank, just like a spare battery".
The are no warnings, cautions or provisos.
My intention is therefore to have a power bank in reserve in case I run out of power whilst having a good day's hunting.
Can anybody recommend a suitable powerbank?

That seems correct to me. It's just like using a power bank to charge a cellphone, in that you still can use the cellphone while the power bank is charging the internal battery. I don't think that the internal battery can be over-charged. If you look at the charging indicator (the green light that flashes on/off), it does not flash any longer once the internal battery is fully charged. The same for a cellphone when one leaves it charging overnight. In this case the cellphone may be fully charged in a couple of hours, and then it doesn't allow additional charging to take place.

It does not make a lot of sense to leave a power bank connected to the detector all the time. Best done as needed to charge the internal battery while detecting, or just when charging the internal battery at home or on the go.

I have a power bank and never use it.
Mine always hs enough charge for 8 and more hours.
Believe me after that king Detecting is, just put it on a charger and if I’m not near AC I’ll just plunge mine into an DC usb ( plug with two usb’s) in my car.
If I was a long long way from a car I may use the power pack.
Most will not detect 8 hrs because of ,,, knees, wrist, arms, legs and back.
So before you run out buy one of those packs will you really use one.
It doesn’t take that long charging the Nox.
I run an extension coward into tha back of my suv and just charge it in the car and never remove it.

Yes, the USB chargers with one or two USB ports that you plug into the cigarette lighter work quite well as long as it has a charging current of 2.1 amps or more. Some of the older USB plugs only charged at 1.5 amps, and these are the ones you don't want to charge the Equinox with.

I use a couple of power banks to charge my phone when I am not at home during the hunting season, or just camping and things like that. I also take at least one of these power banks when detecting away from home. It doesn't hurt to have one or two fully charged, since they cost so little this days. The one I posted above cost $14.00.

I have three power banks. They were for the phone to charge when you can’t get power.
One day I wanted to detect but realized I didn’t have much juice in the NOX. I connected one power bank at a time while
Detecting and was able to detect for two hours with no issues.
