Power Balancing a Tejon

New member
I tried the Power Balancing my Tejon using the method that Monte has written about. It didn't seem to work too well as I was getting a lot of falsing. Has anyone tried it with the Tejon?

In my coin garden I have an Indian head at 8" a clad quarter at 8" a silver quarter titled at 9" a franklin half at 10" a walking liberty tilted at 10" and a silver dime at 10". With my Tejon ground balance I can hit the indian head and the clad quarter. When I power balance the Tejon I can hit it all even the 10" silver dime. I don't get any falsing. I didn't know about power balancing until just awhile back. I have gotten a lot of info off theses forums.

for being patient enough to learn about 'Power Balancing.' As I have stated, I've used this technique since I coined the term

I'm the guy who's been using this technique and coined the term "'Power Balancing" decades ago. It works great with most Tesoro's.

Monte, I want to thank you. I own not only a Tejon but also bought another Vaquero and really like them both. I said bought another Vaquero because I had one and sold it. It was the first Tesoro I ever had. It did pretty good, I tested it and it would get about 6 maybe 7" as a general rule on a dime size coin. Make a long story short I bought a Tejon. I picked up on one of your post about power balancing, WoW what a difference. I thought man if I would of known how to power balance the Vaquero when I had it I would of never sold it. Well I own another one now. I hunt coins and relic hunt. I also run an E-trac. I think after all the years and detectors I've tried, I have finally found the winning combination for the type of hunting I do and the ground I hunt in. Thanks again Monte

Say you own a Tesoro that is factory set ground balance........ You want to trim the pot for your area.. Where would that be ?. Areas you hunt the most ? Open field area..... or what?.

Also once you change the ground balance to an area you hunt...............Is that good for the whole general area, or will it require trim at different spots...

Thank you for the response ..............

I have a couple of controversial videos on YouTube showing the Tejon vs F75 target per target in a Civil War skirmish site. Reading Monte's post has me chomping at the bit to try Power Balancing in our red dirt. I never knew they set the disc mode to run slightly positive from the all metal GB. This totally makes sense now because we were always taught to set the GB "slightly positive". So if we balanced in all metal to a perfect neutral point and then turned the GB control another 1/8th turn positive...well no wonder all I could get were clicks and chirps on 5-6 inch minie balls in red dirt!! I just recently had an offer on a used Tejon that I couldn't pass up. I got it because I wanted a cheap throw behind the truck seat machine....he also has a brand new unused 12x10 SEF DD coil...I was wanting to try a new after market DD coil on a Vaquero or Tejon. When he priced it to me with the new coil and stock coil for $250 I couldn't say no.

Should be interesting to apply Monte's "power balancing" technique and give the Tejon another shot in the red dirt site. and to see if the DD vs Concentric makes a big improvement as well. If so I may be gettin a 12x15" SEF LOL

Monte -- I've been following your posts on these forums for over 10 yrs now and I can't ever remember seeing you talk much about Power Balancing...you are a wealth of info! Thanks so much.
