I have been hunting a local subdivision park that has a nice fenced in swimming pool. I have only hunted the outside of the pool area since I usually show up before it opens or after it is closed. Besides, I never dreamed I would be given access to this potential gold mine
I have pulled one nice gold ring and about $20 in change out of this two square block park.
I took off Friday and ended back at this park since a local farmer was cutting grass at the ball fields I wanted to hunt.
I met the life guard as he was opening up the pool. He was very nice and said the pool didn't officially open for about an hour but gave me permission to "test" the inside area to see if there were any goodies there. He also told me the pool and park were over 20 years old.
I almost flipped out when he gave me permission. He followed me some and I got a solid VDI of 20 in about 30 seconds. I told him it was either a ring or a nickel at one inch. He told me to dig it and it was a nickle. After he saw the care I took in digging and that I did not disturb much of the ground he said; "Go for it, dig all you want." I told him I would share any good jewelry found and he said not necessary.
You dream of encounters like this. But I said all of the above to only show you one very small, but heavy, silver ring...
The park opened at noon so I thought I only had one hour to dig. I only dug known signals and probably passed over some good stuff. I didn't want to wear out my welcome or dig too much this trip. I want to go back. So I spent about 1 1/2 hours there and dug about $5.00 in change and also have permission to come back. I dug 18 nickels thinking a ring was being dug each time.. The small silver ring read like a half dollar. Small but heavy.
On the second trip I will use the 4X6 DD since it is very trashy. I had the 6X9 DD coil on at the time and it did very well.
It is a large pool with about a 10 foot concrete skirt around it. Outside of that is grass for another 12 feet to the fence. There is also a grassy play area about 30 X 60 feet.
I did dig two or three of the 30-40 readings and they were pull tabs or pieces of aluminum. There has to be gold in that grass since he told me many folks lay their towels on the grassy areas.
