POSTING MULTIPLE PHOTO'S

I want to post some digital photo's. Is it better to save them as "gif" or "jpg"? Also the main thing I need some help on is how I can post multiple photo's in a single post. I have some digital pic's of an old structure I want to put on the "whatzit forum" and I dont want to make a seperate post for each pic. Is this possible?
