[attachment 14694 000_0049.jpg][attachment 14694 000_0049.jpg][attachment 14694 000_0049.jpg]I'm new to internet forums. Will try to post photos of an 1842 seated dime. Your comments will be appreciated. First time for me
Regards!

First, nice coin! :D As for the photos, the first one should be cropped so that it loads faster and fits on a normal screen. Both pictures have an orange tint to them indicating that your white balance is off. You got the hard parts of photographing coins right though. Exposure, focus, and reflection are all good.

Appreciate the response concerning my photos. I'll work at things and try to understand what I'm doing. I am new at posting on the finds forums. Never tried to post or send photos over the internet until just recently. Received a digital camera for Christmas. I started treasure hunting in the 1970's with a Garrett ADS 111. My last detector was a Fisher CZ5. I dug the seated dime about 6 years ago. 6 to 7 inches deep. I had just commented to a fellow treasure hunting buddy that I had never dug a seated coin. My most exciting coin find.

Regards,

Just applied Nimrod's suggestions to your coin using photoshop so you can see what he means:

That's cool Gord. I don't seem to be able to get my Kodak camera image software to achieve that. It could be, however that I don't know what I'm doing. How do you guys learn to do this stuff? Did you take a course in how to use the software or just sit down and figure it all out?

Thanks.

Basically I sat down and figured it out ... but I started many years ago using an Amiga computer which was a pretty good graphic computer in it's day. I have always liked computer graphics (and metal detecting of course ;) ) until it became another hobby in addition to my detecting. So seeing your coin I thought I'd illustrate you what Nimrod was referring to in his post as sometimes a picture makes it easier to understand.

Sorry if I overdid it a bit (but I like doing coins up like that). The main thing is a color correction so your coin looks more like a silver dime than a gold coin. It had too much yellow. I'm not familiar with your software but I think if you looked you might be able to find at least some color correction capability. The rest is window dressing ... making both sides the same size and in the same picture, etc. It's worth it to spend a little time and effort to make your finds look good (especially after all the work to find the stuff in the first place  ).

Good luck with your detecting and photography.
