A deep silver coin at the very edge of detection will sometimes give a low tone and the crosshairs will indicate iron. When hunting in the fields I use my boots or digging tool to scrape soil from over the hit and go back over it. I have brought in a lot of ultra deep coins this way. There is a limit to how large of a coil we can use and still detect a small coin. Removing some soil over those faint low iron tones and indications is how I deal with the problem. This is another reason why I run the FE coins area open to hear the iron sounds even if I miss some from having part of that area closed down. I don't do this all the time as it depends on the soil and how deep I think the coins are going to be. I see no reason to be concerned in a park that I know has only been in use since about the fifties that has pretty stable soil. However, in some of the fields I search were we have found reals and other serious good deep finds I really check those hits.
