A buddy works for our little dirt-bag of a city and just like your city, recycling to save landfill space is a priority. When we cut the sod from our lawns we can't just toss the sod into the garbage can...must truck it to the dump and add it to the pile of sod already there. From there it is loaded onto a big dump truck and taken to a spot where it is then off-loaded and spread with a 'dozer.
Find out where your city takes yard debris...the wood, leaves and other such stuff is usually ground up and used for mulching but the sod is usually just spread.
May be nice to let the coins come to you for a change.
