Here is something of interest to us users of the Explorer to possibly get more coins...
P.S. I snagged this off of http://users3.cgiforme.com/explorer1/cfmboard.html

Hello all...Nice forum you all have here, been lurking for a while reading the post. I am new to the Explorer, but have been doing ok til tonight...Took the Explorer out for a bit tonight, did not have much, luck couple mason lids and a bunch of deep rusty nails. So I came home and decided to do get some of my coins out and do some testing.

Hi Bill, read your post and i had the same problem at first,i was given a setting to use not long after and have stuck with this on ever since,i have dug numerous hammered silver and lots of roman coins from a depth of around twelve inches so it must be half decent.Well here it is,
DETECTOR MODE. ADVANCED
SENSITIVITY. MANUAL 20 - 32
DISPLAY SMART
SELECT.
CLEAR SCREEN. SCROLL DOWN AND
REJECT NAILS BY ENTERING X
THIS WILL LEAVE A SMALL PORTION
OF SCREEN IN TOP LEFT CORNER
BLACKED OUT.
VOLUME 10
GAIN. 6 - 8
TONE. THRESHOLD 10
VARIABILITY 6
LIMITS 6
SOUNDS FERROUS
RESPONSE NORMAL AUDIO (Try audio 3
if preferred )
RECOVERY DEEP
RECOVERY DEEP
If when using these settings on a heavily infested site and a lot of nulling over Iron occurs, go back into SELECT in menu. Clear screen and then tick coins only. This will put you into coin programme, all other settings will stay the same but will be a lot more stable and less noisey.
Dig all repeatable signals in the right hand 2/3 of screen, especially where the cross hair is stationary. Signals where the cross hair is bouncing around and going to left are normally Iron.
Hammered silver coins. Look for cross hair stationary just off
bottom of screen, middle to right of
screen. silver paper and foil usually
show right on bottom.
Gold. Cross hair stationary middle to bottom
right hand half of screen.
Most other coins. Top right hand corner of screen.
You can get lots more tips from a site called minelabowners.com that has been set up by two keen detectorists over here(England)one of whom's settings i now use.good luck and prosperous hunting.
