Possible Case Idea for the CTX

A buddy sent me this link for a case for a couple of guns. I had a different idea in mind. With the customizable foam a guy could make a nice weatherproof case for his CTX. I ordered one yesterday and should arrive soon. A $180 dollar case for $59 bucks is a heck of a deal. I'll keep everyone Posted on the progress.

LInk to amazon case

That should make a very nice case does it come with foam blanks to cut.out for what ever you are going to pit in it?

The case you link to is only 13" wide;

(43"X13"X5" Interior Dimensions)

Mine is a close fit with a 17" wide case.. You will probably have to remove coil for the 3030 to fit.
I leave stock coil on for storage / travel as my 17" won't fit my case well its mounted. So put it under my foam.

The 17" might fit if i recut new foam.

You can see my post - New hard case for 3030 with photos.

That is a awesome price you found for one of these cases.
I paid way more for mine.

If yours fits let us know please.

I would by this one if it fit, or i should by one for the new detector coming for the wife:cheekkiss:

I read the reviews and didn't like some of the complaints against it's durability and locks.

Good info to know. I figured for the price I'll see if it works. If not no big deal. I'll stick an AR in it. I'll let you guys know how/if it will fit.

Got lucky, bought (for $4.00) from the Goodwill store, a very nice, square with wheels, golf bag that
is large enough to hold an 8x11 coil in the ball pouch along with many sets of batteries, gloves, etc...
It has 2 zippers for the detector that unzip all the way down to the wheels, has a square hard plastic
base that the 2 wheels and 2 feet allows it to stand it upright on level ground. Water repellant. Looked
them up on the bay at the time and found that they were very expensive. Mind you, this zips totally
up and encloses the detector entirely. Not an open bag you see on the course. I would imagine this
was made for travel and protection of the clubs as the 4 corners seem to have some kind of hard
plastic or heavy gauge wire running up the corners to keep it's form. I was very lucky as it had been
there a long time and they had marked it way down. Think it was $15.00 to start with.

Verdict is in. Case is just a bit too small to put the ctx in with the coil attached. probably going to turn it into an AR case. Oh well it was still worth a try.

Made this one out of a Plano 114400. Had to buy the blanks but I really like the result. Academy had them on sale for 49.00.

Well I went ahead and used the case for my detector. I have to just take the nylon bolt and nut loose from the coil and set it in the case.

It holds my headphones and WM, raptor digging tool, three pinpointers, and a few other things. It is a tight fit, but the case is slim and stores well.

Looks good!

Very nice! if it could hold four pinpointers I would be sold ;)

My CTX has been in this SKB case for about two years now. I am a retired Marine - now Government civilian - living in Japan. I have lived in a number of countries around the world in my 25 years of government service and almost every time I move, something I care about gets broken. Worse yet - something my wife cares about gets broken - but that is a different story! Before moving to Japan, I decided to give my CTX3030 the best possible chance at survival - without causing me a lot of trouble associated with disassembly/reassembly when I get wherever I am going. I have shipped military weapons across the globe in either Pelican or SKB cases for years without incident - why not my CTX? Both brands are air tight, waterproof, have a built-in pressure relief valves and can be locked! They have been dropped, thrown, hit by small vehicles and still survived. Anyway, I found the perfect SKB case online - the SKB I-SERIES DOUBLE RIFLE BLK 3I-4217-7B-L. It has three layers of UNCUT foam that enable you to recess the detector in the case evenly through cutting out specific areas. When complete, I was able to get the fully assembled CTX and ALL factory accessories (including charging cables, etc...) in the case - with room left for a CTX06 Coil and Pro-find 25, should I decide to add them. Bottom line, this is an easy project; all you need is about $185 to $200 for the case, a thin bladed razor knife, a black sharpie, one (1) can of Fusion Spray Paint, one (1) can of spray adhesive and about two (2) hours on a Saturday or Sunday.
