Position of Excal control box

I have my control box mounted just behind my elbow on my homemade straight shaft and it works very good. Just wondering if any of you have tried using the excal with the control box mounted just under your forearm. Would the balance be any better? Thanks for any info. HH John

I found the rear extension shaft to be the best for me. The weight helps the coil hover above the sand. I tried the over / under rod and it wore me out. Of course my shoulder is shot. But the rear shaft is a blessing

That's exactly what I wanted to know. I also have a messed up right shoulder and can hunt for 3-4 hours with the control box behind my elbow without any pain, just wanted to see what the difference was. I will keep it the way I have it. Thank you very much and good hunting to you. John

Spent the morning messin around with mine, and found it worked best the furthest back. Doesn't fit in the truck cab anymore with the straight shaft, was tryin to shorten it up a bit. Did find, by mistake, that I like it better with the main detector housing mounted with the headphone cord near the cuff or pointing down, rather than the other way. I can reach the threshold knob faster/easier now and the pinpoint if I decide to use that for some reason. This also keeps the battery connection sticking outa the water a greater percent of the time and less tension on the headphone cord for me (6'3").

I've got mine set up the same way. I set up the control box with the headphone cord pointing toward the coil, the controls are easy to get to. Mine wouldn't fit in the backseat of my truck either but if you depress the clip sticking out of the shaft from the lower rod, you should be able to push the lower rod into the shaft and make it smaller. Just be sure and take out the lower rod after hunting in salt water and rinse out the shaft and lower rod real good or that salt will freeze up the rod to the shaft, I found that out the hard way, had to replace the lower rod, cracked it trying to unstick it. Thanks for the info. John

More than weight i think its balance, i tried the chest mount and the shaft only felt heavier than with the electronics behind the elbow(inverted like John(tx) has it)

with the controls behind the elbow, the coil seems to float over the sand, very comfortable for me, and feels good this way, didn't like the control box around my body. thanks....

Rotate the control tube so that the discriminate / pinpoint knob is towards the coil. It makes for an easier switching between discriminate / pinpoint modes. I have mine mounted behind the elbow and it really makes swinging the Excalibur II 1000 very comfortable and easy.

Good info. Has me thinking that when I get around to buying a waterproof box for my GT to go in I might opt to mount it high on the back of the shaft rather still on my chest. I was thinking about putting the box on top of my left shoulder but this might be a better way to balance the coil.
